Edward Hartzog Obituary

HARTZOG, SR., Edward ST. GEORGE - Edward Behling Hartzog, Sr., 76, of 500 Johnston Street, died Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at the St. George Health Care Center. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverends David Mullins, Odell Breland and Craig Crosby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Earl Hartzog, Jack Neil, Sam Hartzog, Trey Wade, Robert Thomas, Joseph Earl Crook, Brian Hartzog, Kevin Crook and Donald Crook. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men's Bible Class and the Deacons. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home. Mr. Hartzog was born on June 7, 1932 in Reevesville SC, a son of the late Urial V. and Hattie Reeves Hartzog. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served in many capacities and was currently a deacon emeritus. He was a 1951 graduate of St. George High School. He was a former employee of the Savannah River Plant where he worked for 38 years. He was predeceased by his brother, Francis Hartzog. Surviving are his wife, Lynette C. Hartzog, a son, Edward B. (Gilda) Hartzog, Jr., a daughter, Karen Lynne (Dwight) Neil, all of St. George; grandchildren, Earl Hartzog, James Island, Sam (Kim) Hartzog, Aiken, Rebecca (Trey) Wade and Grace Neil, all of St. George, Jack (Candi) Neil, Greenville; great-grandchildren, Dallas and Sawyer Wade; one brother, Victor Hartzog of Kinston, NC and a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
