Edward Ganis Obituary

Edward Woodrow Ganis, Sr. N. CHARLESTON - "Well done, good and faithful Servant" was his greeting when he arrived at his Eternal Home on March 13, 2023. Edward Woodrow Ganis, Sr., known and loved as Bud, left this world surrounded by his loved ones and will be missed more than words can express. Bud was born on December 15, 1940, in Duford, SC, to his loving parents, Woodrow and Annie Mae Ganis. The family relocated to Charleston during Bud's teen years and he graduated from Chicora High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Bud became an apprentice at the Post & Courier, formerly known as News & Courier, in their engraving department. Many lifelong friendships were made during his 44 years and continued after his retirement in 2002. In 1959, Bud made a commitment to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. His career included exciting rescues, many shuttle launch tours, and lifetime friendships until he retired in 1995. The love of Bud's life was Linda "Patsy" Sweat Ganis. They were married 61 years and had two children, Sherry and Woody. Together, they created a home that was inviting to all. While Bud and Patsy both had successful careers, they made sure to enjoy life with each other and with their family and friends with beach weeks, camping trips, and many vacations and gatherings. Bud loved big and he loved his family, his neighbors, his church, and his friends. He was always the gentleman, always the servant, and always faithful to doing whatever needed to be done to help someone. Those who met Bud rarely forgot this Southern Gentleman. In addition to his loving wife, Patsy, of 61 years, Bud is survived by his children, Sherry (Rick) White and Edward "Woody" Woodrow Ganis, Jr. He has four grandchildren, Adeline (Joseph) Snyder, Daniel White, Matthew Ganis, and Sydney Ganis; and two great-grandchildren, Wesley White and Juniper Snyder. Bud also has two surviving siblings, Roger (Mary) Ganis and Emily (Sammy) Brown. He was preceeded in death by his parents and siblings, Carolyn Ganis and Annette Simpson. The family wishes to thank Roper Hospice, Nurse Theresa, and Caregivers Carla and Kendra for their loving support and care for Bud. A visitation will held for Bud at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. A Funeral Service will be held at Cokesbury United Methodist Church on Thursday March 16, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. 4990 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC 29418. I knew Bud for many years during my time with the USCG Reserve unit in Charleston. He was well liked and respected for his knowledge and caring personality.

I had the pleasure of working with Bud at The Post and Courier. He had to be of the most talented, genteel, loyal person I've ever known. We need more people like Bud; our world would be so much better off. Rest in peace, my friend
