Edward Felkel Obituary

Edward Gasque Felkel JAMES ISLAND - Entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 2, 2010, Mr. Edward Gasque Felkel, of James Island, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. Edward G. Felkel are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the James A. McAlister Chapel. Friends may call at the funeral home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Wednesday afternoon from 3:00 p.m., until time of service. Burial will be Private. Edward was born in Columbia, SC, on January 29, 1956, a son of Saint Elmo and Jewel Parniece Gasque Felkel and attended Charleston area schools. Edward was a lover of music, particularly country western. Having been born with cerebral palsy, he identified with and was particularly fond of blind singer-songwriter Ronnie Milsap. Edward never met a stranger, was known to be flirtatious, and loved all animals, especially his birds. A lifelong company to his mother, Edward's mission on this earth was to leave everyone with a smile through his laugh, his wit and his art of conversation. He set an amazing example to all he met, as he never complained about his disability. His faith was strong, knowing that one day he would be the one walking, running and doing the things that he was not able to do on earth. Edward is survived by his mother of Charleston; his father of Hanahan; his brother, Randall E. Felkel, and his partner, J. Mitchell Crosby, of Charleston; his sister, Stephanie F. Johnson of Hickory, NC; his fiance;, Susan Bumgarner as well as several half-brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Edward's caregivers, Ramona, Don and Chris. Please make memorial contributions to the Charles Webb Center, 1611 Evergreen St. Charleston, SC 29407. His guest book may be signed at www.jamesamcalister.com. Arrangements by JAMES A. MCALISTER, INC. 766-1365. Visit our guestbook at www.postandcourier.com/ deaths

I remember Edward as an intelligent and caring person whom I enjoyed to talking with man times over the years. I have not seen him for a very long time but I recall one particular day when my cousins, Shawn and Tim, and I pushed Edward's wheelchair down Wampler Drive running like crazy behind him. We were having the time of our lives...including Edward. I know that now he is running donwn the streets of Heaven without a wheelchair and having the time of his life! Edward will be missed.
