Edward Charles Berg

Edward Charles Berg, 80, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 13, 2015.

 He is survived by June Berg, his wife of 61 years, his son Michael (Cathy) Berg, and two daughters, Deb Grubb and Susan (Dan) Swathwood.  He also had five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and leaves behind a brother, Jim.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents (Edward J. and Jane) and a son-in-law (Carl Grubb). 

 Edward was born in Benton Harbor, MI on October 11th, 1934.  He met his future wife. June in Muskegon, MI and said after meeting her, he always knew he was going to marry her.  On June 19th, 1954, he did marry June and they spent 61 years together, having three wonderful children.  Edward served in the Naval Reserve.  He was honorably discharged and soon began working as manager in a shoe store.  Edward readily accepted a post at the Albion, MI Police Department, where he stayed for 32 years while serving he completed his Law Enforcement Degree and retired as a Lieutenant in 1994.  He loved being a police officer and also loved his chosen town of Albion, Michigan. 

 Education was always important to Edward so he worked toward and received a master's degree in Continuing Education from M.S.U. in 1972 while he was still working as a police officer.  He used this knowledge to serve on the school board for 18 years and he spent 14 of those as the president of the organization.  He had a lot of patience and a sensible approach to decision making, qualities that made him a valuable school board member. He was extremely sadden to see the Albion School System decline.

 Edward enjoyed other activities throughout his life.  He particularly enjoyed his church, First Baptist of Albion.  He also loved attending the performances or sports activities of his grandchildren along with golf, woodworking and spending time with friends or family.  Edward deeply loved his friends and family, choosing to spend many afternoons socializing with them. 

There will be a service to celebrate the life of Edward Berg at 2pm on 6/24/2015.  A visitation for the family will take place from 1 to 2.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you consider donating to the First Baptist Church of Albion Mission Fund, 980 Haven Rd. Albion, MI. 49224.  Mission work was very dear to his heart, having studied at New Tribes Bible Inst. and taking several mission trips.
