Edith Johnson Obituary

Edith Cornelia Johnson Charleston - Edith Cornelia Johnson (Tilton), of Charleston, born April 2, 1956, daughter of William Penn Tilton, Jr. and Mary Jane Tilton (Talle), passed away peacefully on the 2nd of October 2021 at the age of 65 years old. She graduated on the Dean's List from Russell Sage College with a Bachelor of Science and dedicated her entire career as a Registered Nurse in various roles throughout the Charleston area. At the same time, she was an exemplary athlete, competing actively in a variety of sports including tennis, golf, springboard diving and equestrian pursuits. Although highly competitive, she never left anyone behind. She truly dedicated her life in the pursuit of happiness for others. It is a true loss to her family and those who she touched throughout her life. Edie leaves behind her sons, James Benjamin Johnson, Zachary Andrew Johnson, Herbert "Wells" Barnwell Johnson III; daughters-in-law, Chelsea Johnson and Shelby Johnson; grandchildren, James Owen Johnson, Piper Elaine Johnson, and Emmersyn Lynn Johnson; as well as her sisters, Deborah Jane Tilton, Talle Jolliffe (Tilton) and Jessica Tilton and a brother, William Penn Tilton III. She is preceded in death by her brother, James Henry Tilton. Her Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2021 in the J. She was my friend, neighbor and co-worker, my heart is breaking and I will miss her deeply. Without her i would not have made it through my cancer treatment, she was with me every step of the way. My thoughts and sympathy go out to her family, especially her sons, she loved them dearly. She will be missed!

It is with a heavy heart to offer my condolences to the family and friends Edith. Edith was my preceptor at Roper Home Healthcare in the early 1990. Edith was a compassionate nurse with her clients, they all loved her. May all of the wonderful memories that you shared bring you all comfort in the coming days.

So deeply sorry to read of Edie´s passing. I first met her in 1980 when we worked at St. Francis and then we worked at Fenwick Hall Hospital. She had an electric personality and a heart of gold. Sending love and healing prayers. May God Bless.
