Edgar Stone Obituary

Edgar Stone, Jr. JAMES ISLAND - Edgar Stone, Jr., 76, of James Island, SC, husband of Agnes Stroman Stone, passed peacefully from this earth to be with his Savior on April 4, 2025. Edgar was born June 22, 1948, a son of Edgar, Sr. and Martha Taylor Stone. He is survived by his faithful wife of 56 years, Agnes; his stepmother, Patsy Stone of Moncks Corner; his siblings, George (Lynn) Stone of Waxhaw, NC, Amy Spell (Steve Summers) of Branchville and Joel T. (Kathy) Stone of Charleston. He also leaves a strong legacy which lives on in their five children, Scott (Tammy) Stone of Walterboro, Debbie (Eddie) Kearns of Summerville, Andy (Laura) Stone of Walterboro, DeeDee (Aaron) Shirley of James Island and Jeffrey Stone (Victoria Epstein) of Johns Island. The Stone family legacy continues with their fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Ed was a graduate of St. Andrew's High School and Palmer College. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Ed worked in shops 56 and 31 at the Charleston Naval Shipyard followed by service at Defense Finance and Accounting Services until his retirement. He enjoyed talking with visitors (and giving out dog treats) at his post-retirement job at James Island County Park. Ed was a life member of the Charleston Elks Lodge 242, was past president of the James Island Exchange Club and was a longtime member of the Charleston Coastal Anglers. Ed's last residence in this life was the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. The staff made it well known what many others already knew of him: to the very end, Ed was a good man. Ed had a great love for life and enjoyed so many things; he was an avid hunter and sportsman. He took his kids, grandkids and friends boating, fishing, shrimping, camping and was well known for hosting oyster roasts. Ed never met a stranger and would talk to anyone, making everyone feel welcome. He was always goofing off and did everything he could to make the grandbabies laugh. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM, Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy., Charleston. The Elks will perform their ritual at 6:30 PM. His Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 17, 2025, St. James Anglican Church, 1101 Camp Rd., on James Island. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Charleston Elks Lodge 242, 1113 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston SC 29407, to benefit the Alzheimer's Research Fund (please reference Alzheimers in your donation). Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc., (843) 766-1365.

To Agnes and the whole family:
I went through High School with Eddie,
and loved the way he smiled through life! He was everybody´s brother, and never ran out of jokes! He was not only funny, but was a great friend to all, especially if anyone needed a shoulder! Heaven is a happier place
now that he is there.
Agnes, I just lost my husband of 50+ years two years ago, and my heart and prayers are with you

I didn't know Eddie but he was my first cousin. My mom Annie Mae Taylor Henson his aunt used to talk about him and she thought he was pretty special. She said he always cooked the best shrimp at the family reunions and was very loving to her. Sounds like a life well lived. May God comfort the family. Carol Henson Brisky
