When I was a student at Charleston Southern University, for two years I worked in the ER at Trident Hospital. That's where I met Dr. Chariker. I had an interest in medicine and Dr. Chariker gave me his listening year. If he had a surgery in the evening when I was working, he would see me and say " I'm doing surgery, wanna watch?" What a remarkable man, what a man of grace. I'm just now learning of his passing, but from what I'm reading it appears that he and I will meet again in our heavenly home.

You were always so very kind to share your knowledge with me. It truly helped me to grow as a nurse, and to enjoy my profession so much more. And you and Fredda were both good friends to me. Thanks for all, Edd. You are never forgotten.

I have very fond remembrances of Edd. He was a gifted surgeon and a true gentleman. I will never forget him, or all that he taught me; and the good times we passed as colleagues in the ICU. He always thanked the entire team for for our participation following any crisis, successful or not. He is fondly remembered.

Edd was both my mentor and my dear friend. I also worked with Fredda for a short time before she retired. I learned practically all I know about CT surgery from Edd. He was one of the most kind and polite gentlemen I ever knew. I also learned how to talk to patients from him. I remember him with thankfulness and only fond memories.

I must say how terribly sad I was to hear of Dr. Chariker's passing. In Dec. 1992, our family received terrible news that my father had lung cancer. I was working for a physician at that time and had heard of Dr. Chariker. My father was from Mullins, SC and he came to Charleston for his care. Dr. Chariker was one of his physicians, among many others, but he topped the list. He had an incredible way of comforting our family. I just have to say that I have never met anyone like him, in his profession. He really seemed to care for his patients and I know he will be missed by those who worked with him and especially his loving family. God bless you all.

Edd was my physician mentor, my colleague for many years, and also my cherished friend. He is the wonderful man who gave birth to and nurtured my life-long love of cardiac surgery. Fredda is dearly loved as well. Gone, but still alive in my heart.

To the Chariker Family
I was a patient of Dr. Chariker's and when I first met him I was so apprehensive about my vein surgery.
Right from the start he put me at ease and explained everything to me.
I found him to be kind, caring and compassionate. A "true gentlemen" with an amazing bedside manner.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I light this candle in memory of Dr. Chariker . In 1972 I started employment at the Burn Unit at MUSC . In June of 1976 I met Dr. Chariker . He was a resident on the Thoracic team and I that summer required emergency thoracic surgery . Having worked with many residents , there was a different air about Dr. Chariker . He showed such compassion and concern for me . It reinforced my belief in angels . God often sends angels to aid you when you're at a low and weak place in your life and I believe this to be the case at that time in my life . Later in the seventies he spent a period of time as a resident in the Burn Unit where I worked . His patients there all loved him for all the reasons I mentioned above and for me it was a joy working with him during his stay there . And finally after more than thirty years I met him again at his office at the Trident Arts Center . He was a rare man of medicine , he really cared for those who were sick and in distress . May your flight to Paradise be blissful Dr. Chariker . And may the Chariker family find some solace for you now have a blessed angel watching over you . God bless !

I have so many memories of the times I worked with Dr. Chariker at Charleston County Hospital when he was a resident and I was an ICU nurse. He was a skilled surgeon and an excellent teacher. He was kind to patients, families and staff and had a "wicked" sense of humor. Those were memorable times and I am happy that I had the privilege of working with him. My deepest sympathy to you all. Rest eternal grant him O Lord.

Dr.Chariker was one of the most caring, compassionate people I have ever known. He was kind not only to his patients but the nurses that took care of his patients. I worked in ICU for 15 yrs and learned so much from him. He also took great care of my husband and parents along the way; never hesitating to ask how they were and to step in to help me get something they might need. I will always be thankful for him. Although, I could not really do anything for him during his illness, I did pray for him often. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with his family and very close friends. Our community has lost a wonderful man.

Thankyou Dr Chariker for all the kindness you gave to me at Trident Hospital when I started my career becoming an RT. You were always so patient helping me with drawing ABG's when I was an OJT, and using those glass syringes! Throughout my career I have been lucky to have known you.
