Earl Biscoe Obituary

BISCOE, JR., Earl Earl Biscoe, Jr., died February 24, 2008, in Bloomfield, CT. He leaves his loving wife, Lilly Palmer, their beloved daughter Elouise Palmer Biscoe, of Boston, MA, and Marigrace McNamara of Mount Dora, FL, the devoted wife of their only son Earl Biscoe III, who died in 2001. He also leaves his cousin Grace Andersen and her children, Bill, Sharman and Einar. Earl was a cheerful, generous soul; a gentle man; always considerate of his family and his many fine friends, relatives and companions, at work and at play. As one of them said, "He was a men who always gave you the benefit of the doubt." Born on October 12, 1920, he was the only son of the late Colonel Earl Biscoe and Edith Aldrich Biscoe of New York City. Because of his Army heritage, Earl traveled broadly in his youth. Later in his life he provided his wife and children the same opportunities to see the world. He was in the class of 1939 in St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, and in 1943 was graduated from Princeton University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Earl served wit the Seventh Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific, and retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1963 with the rank of Lt. Colonel. From 1946 to 1952, he was employed by Parker Rust Proof Company of Detroit and New York, and for the next thirty years by the New Departure Hyatt Bearings Division of General Motors Corp. in Bristol, CT, retiring in 1980. Earl and Lilly made their home in West Hartford from 1952 until their move in 2000 to Duncaster, a Life Care Community in Bloomfield. They summered at Waquoit on Cape Cod, a very special place to the family for fifty-five years. Earl was a member of the Hartford Golf Club, the 1982 Club (formerly the 20th Century Club) and the Connecticut Valley Investment Club. He belonged to the Old Guard where he coordinated the Red Cross Blood Mobile for some time. He was an active member of St. John's Church in West Hartford. He also served as Trustee and Secretary for Receiving Donations in Support of the Bishop of the Episcopal Doicese of Connecticut. A memorial service will take place at St. John's Church in West Hartford on March 17, 2008, at 11 a.m. Funeral preparations were done by the Molly Funeral Home, West Hartford, CT. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Church, 679 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT 06119; to the Duncaster Residents Association, 80 Loeffler Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002; or to an organization of the donor's choice. Please share my condolences with your mother and your family. I did enjoy seeing you so much at the reunion. I hope to stay in touch with you. My husband's parents have moved in with us in May. I hope you received my birthday wishes.

Take good care, Diane Fink Friedman

I am Earl's second cousin. I have known him since the early 1950s. I've got a few pictures of him through time. I'll post some of the early slides my dad took once I scan them.

Earl & Lilly Biscoe at the Cundari Wedding - April 1980

Lilly,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I learned a great deal from Earl at NDH and I am indebted to the opportunities that he gave me as a young engineer to work on special projects in Engineering and then move into Management. I remember returning from vacation on August 18, 1980 and Earl called me into his office. We had suspected that he might be retiring. He began by telling me that it was great that people could advance from his department to new opportunities. He then told me that he was retiring and Joe Dobek was taking his job and I was taking Joe's position. Earl's retirement had started the chain of events. I have included a photo from a very happy day in April 1980 of Earl and youself and Joe and Phyllis Kappes at our wedding. Lilly, again I express my heartfelt sympathy to you and this great loss to all of us.
