With heavy hearts, we announce that Betty Jane Lucas, 93, went to be with the Lord at 2:08 a.m. on February 11, 2026, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Betty was born on September 3, 1932, to John and Edna Mehn. She was the oldest of ten children and carried that role with strength, love, and devotion throughout her life.
She married Darrel Lucas in 1950; he preceded her in death in 1971. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers and 4 sisters; and her son, Donald Lucas.
She was a devoted mother to her six children: Dale (the late Janice) Lucas, the late Donald Lucas, Darrel (the late Debra) Lucas, Dave (the late Veronica) Lucas, Dan (Sarah) Lucas, and Diane (Keith) Roehm. Her legacy continues through her 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
Family was the true light of Betty's life. She cherished every opportunity to keep up with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she found her greatest happiness in simply being together. She was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her steady presence, warmth, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed.
