Douglas Manker Willis EARLY BRANCH, SC - Mr. Douglas Manker Willis 88, of Possum Corner Road in Early Branch, SC, died Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013, Born April 21, 1925 in Hampton County, he was the son of the late Truth Verene Willis and Gertie Bell Gibson Willis. Mr. Willis served his country in World War II in the United States Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a timber contractor and a member of Sand Hill Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 60 years, was a member of the Gideons International and the American Legion Post 108. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ramona Taylor Willis; one son, Jeff A. Willis and wife Rhonda of Early Branch and one daughter, Rachel V. Willis of Early Branch. There are six grandchildren: Hannah Willis Rustin and husband Charlton, Rhett Willis and wife Sara, Joshua, Sarah, Christine and Caleb Willis, 5 great-grandchildren and a family friend Todd Hancock. He was predeceased by 3 infant sons, one brother, Laverne Willis and 2 sisters, Nell Cook and Skippy Ginn. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 PM in the Sand Hill Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. George Skinner, Rev. James Porter and Rev. Todd Hancock. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery, with Military Honors. Friends may call Saturday evening from 5 until 7 PM at PEEPLES-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME, 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, SC 29924 (803) 943-3352.
