Douglas Stalb Obituary

Dr. Douglas B. Stalb SUMMERVILLE - After a long and happy life, Dr. Douglas B. Stalb died peacefully in his sleep on February 4, 2021 after experiencing complications from a fall. He was 88 years old. Doug is survived by Teddie, his loving wife of 56 years, his children, Patricia (Tony), of Central, SC, and Michael (Angel) of Bay St. Louis, MS, his brother, Alan (Suzie) of Windsor, CT, and many nieces and nephews. Doug did his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, and graduated in 1961 from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dentistry, where he was a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity. He was selected to attend the General Residency Program at the National Naval Dental School at Bethesda, MD, graduating in 1970. Doug practiced dentistry in the United States Navy Dental Corps at various duty stations, retiring at the Charleston Navy Base in 1977 with the rank of Commander. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Doug and his wife, Teddie, established a family dental practice on Trolley Road in Summerville, where he tended to the dental needs of the people of Summerville for nineteen years. After his second retirement in 1996, Doug provided volunteer dental care at charitable clinics in the Lowcountry. He was a long-time member of the Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, and enjoyed going on mission trips with his Bethany church family. At Bethany, he was a member of the Spiritual Growth Sunday School Class. Doug was an avid reader, loved to cook, and kept the family home and yard in immaculate condition. He played golf every chance he got, and scored six holes-in-one. In 2018, Doug and Teddie moved to the Presbyterian Village in Summerville, living in a cozy apartment they called The Bird's Nest. Once they settled in, Doug's goal there was to visit a different Village neighbor every day. He cherished the friends he made throughout his life, who remember his dry wit and sunny personality. Doug was loved by many, and he will be missed. Because of the pandemic, the funeral service will be held at a date to be announced later, probably in the Spring. The funeral will be held at the Bethany United Methodist Church of Summerville. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at the Presbyterian Village of Summerville, 201 W. 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483, or to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. 3rd South Street, Summerville SC 29483. Doug will be long remembered as a friend and fellow Navy Dental Officer. He was always cheerful and never met a stranger. I send my sympathy to Teddie and the family.
May God's Grace give you comfort at this difficult time.
With deepest sympathy,
