Douglas Leonard Hester, Sr. Hanahan - Douglas Leonard Hester, Sr., 86 of Hanahan, SC went to be with the Lord Monday, October 8th, 2018. His funeral service will be held Sunday, October 14th, 2018 at Northwood Church in Summerville, SC at 3:oo PM. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday October 13th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road. Douglas was born February 17, 1932 in Charleston, SC., son of late Foster and Mattie Hester. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retiree of 36 years in the Civil Service where he continued to serve the Air Force as a Sheet Metal Mechanic in the Field Maintenance Squadron. He owned and operated a successful Tree trimming and removal Service where he was known as the "Tree Climber". He amazed many family and friends with his talent of climbing and cutting trees into his 70's. He was a member of Northwood Church where he served faithfully as an usher. Douglas had a kind gentle nature and was always ready to share the redemptive story of Jesus Christ. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Jean Bentzel Hester. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Alice Mae Smith Hester. He leaves behind two daughters, Pauline Flowers, Tammy Young (John); two sons Jimmy Hester (Debi), Douglas Hester Jr. (Jane), 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Mildred Abbott, Hazel Hill, and brothers William Hester and Foster Hester.
