Douglas Duncan Obituary

Douglas Earl Duncan DANIEL ISLAND - Douglas Earl Duncan, 77, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather whose life was filled with love for his family and service to his community. Doug was born on September 27, 1947, in Indian Trail, North Carolina. He was the youngest of four brothers raised on a family farm. He was the son of the late Marcus Earl Duncan and Myrtle Baucom Duncan. After graduating from Piedmont High School, Doug attended Wingate University and later earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1970. Doug dedicated his professional life to the field of pharmacy, serving his community with compassion and integrity. Beyond his career, he was a passionate genealogist and history enthusiast. Whether researching family roots, volunteering at museums or sharing stories as a Fort Sumter Tour Guide, Doug found joy in connecting past to present. Doug was always quick to strike up a conversion, a reflection of his natural gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. Doug's unwavering commitment to family was exemplified by his fifty-four-year marriage to Kathryn and the deep love he poured into his children and grandchildren. Affectionately known as 'DD' by his grandchildren, he was a constant presence at basketball and baseball games, track meets, dance recitals, and school plays. He was always there to cheer them on and show his steadfast support. His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Doug remained deeply involved in Sunday School, served as a devoted deacon and served as the President for Pace Setters. He previously worshipped at Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, NC, and continued his spiritual service locally at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Doug is survived by his daughter, Kem Duncan Baker (Cody) of Charleston, SC; his son, Chris Duncan (Courtney) of Matthews, NC; and four cherished grandchildren: Reese Baker, Regan Baker, Knox Duncan, and Lively Duncan. Doug also leaves behind his brother, Jim Duncan of Indian Trail, NC and many beloved nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Duncan, his parents, and two brothers, Don Duncan and Bob Duncan. A funeral service to honor Doug's life will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church located at 302 Hibben Street, Mt. Pleasant, SC, at 2:00 PM, with a reception to follow. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025. at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Cemetery in Monroe, NC.
