Dory Hickson Obituary

Dory Bruce Sharpe Hickson, a cherished family matriarch, passed away comfortably on March 11, 2026. Dory was born in Savannah, GA on June 9, 1930, and is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Whit Lee Hickson, her siblings, Bobbie Grace Sharpe Citron, Betty Blake Sharpe Hull, and Joseph Sharpe. Dory is survived by her brother, Murray Louis Schine, and her sister, Rose Marie Schine Harbison; by her devoted children: Rebecca Ann Hickson Dodrill (Bill), Barbara Lee Hickson, Mary Jane Hickson Blatchford (Kevin), Amy Kathleen Hickson Jackson (Bruce), and Whit Lee Hickson, Jr. (E.B.); five grandchildren: Jessica Lois Jones Simpson (Palmer), Katelyn Georgina Jackson, Sara Kirkland Dodrill Yandell (Jack), William George Dodrill, III, and Ellen Moylan Bowie Hickson; and two great-grandchildren, Owen Snelling Simpson and Hayes William Yandell. Dory loved her career and traveling with Whit, Sr. She enjoyed investigating genealogy and established membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She later served twice as Regent of the Bonaventure Chapter of the DAR (Savannah). A graveside service will be held in Bonaventure Cemetery (Savannah) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. with a remembrance gathering to immediately follow.
