Dorothy Reid MT. PLEASANT - Mrs. Dorothy Sullivan Reid, age 97, passed away peacefully April 8, 2025 in Memory Care at Shem Creek Health Center of South Bay, Mt. Pleasant, SC. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Sanctuary of Woodland United Methodist Church, 801 Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A private family burial service will be held at 12:15 PM in Laurelwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Mrs. Reid was born November 28, 1927 in Rock Hill, SC to the late William Herbert Sullivan and Elsie Horton Sullivan. She was educated at Winthrop Training School (K-11) and graduated from Winthrop College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She received a Master of Arts degree focused on Early Childhood Development from Winthrop College in 1955. Mrs Reid taught for 16 years at Winthrop Training School until its closing, at which time she taught in the Fort Mill Public school system for another 16 years until retirement. She loved children and retained her ability to connect with them throughout her life. After her retirement from teaching, she enjoyed being a member of the Rock Hill Christian Women's Association. She also was a member of the Rock Hill YMCA Silver Fox club, enjoying travels with them across the United States and to other countries and cultures including China and a Mediterranean cruise to Greece and Croatia. Known to her friends as Dot, Mrs. Reid was a member of Woodland UMC where she taught children's Sunday School and served in various capacities in the United Methodist Women's organization and was a member of the Susanna Wesley Circle and the Unity Sunday School class. She also enjoyed many years as a volunteer in the church office and as a founder of the church's Christmas Cookie Walk, Dot was always in search of new cookie recipes. "Dottie" lived all of her life on the land that her father originally owned until the challenges of aging required her to make difficult changes. In 2018, she moved into assisted living at Harbor Chase of Rock Hill and in 2023 into Memory Care at Shem Creek Health Center of South Bay in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The kindness and care that she received from her caregivers and her Heartland Hospice team, allowed her to live out her life with dignity and grace. The family is especially grateful to all those that opened their hearts to her, became part of our family and allowed her to shine. Dot is survived by her daughter, Dr. Sandra Reid Bigelow (Michael Bigelow) of McClellanville, SC and her son, William Sullivan Reid (Kathie Vaughn Reid) of Rock Hill, SC. She was and will always be "The Mimi" to her grandchildren, Dr. William Robert Bigelow (Desiree), John Michael Bigelow, and Miranda Kate Reid and to her great- granddaughters, Ilu Wren Bigelow and Lily Reid Bigelow. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John Frank Reid.
