Dorothy Owens Obituary

OWENS, Dorothy Entered into peace on Sunday, April 13, 2008. Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Zorn Owens, 84, of Charleston and formerly of Govan, SC, will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Govan, SC with visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial immediately following services in the church cemetery. Born June 3, 1923, in Denmark, SC, she was the last born of Annie Lee Templeton Zorn and Silas Eaves Zorn. She graduated from Denmark-Olar High School. Mrs. Owens is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Lowell Burns Owens; eight brothers, John Richard Zorn, William Brunie Zorn, James Daniel Oliver Zorn, Ruby Allen Zorn, Silas Eugene Zorn, Sammuel Sebastian Zorn, Emory Zorn, Edward Ernest Zorn and four sisters, Susan Wilhelmenia Zorn Kennedy, Katherine Zorn Lancaster, Jessie Lee Zorn Lancaster and Daisy Lee Zorn. Surviving are two children, a son, James Burns Owens, Jr. (Jimmy) and his wife Geri of Daniel Island and a daughter, Rosalyn Owens Finnegan and her husband James Joseph (Jimmy) Finnegan of Charleston. Also six grandchildren, James Burns Owens, Jr. (Jamie) of Lugoff, Julie Owens Jeffers and husband Mark of Blythwood, John Lowell Owens of Daniel Island, Jill Crider McDonald and husband Lindsay of Bamberg, James J. (Jamie) Finnegan, III of Mt. Pleasant, Drew Patrick Finnegan and wife Christy of Charleston, and six great grandchildren. Mrs. Owens was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Govan. Her love of flowers and gardening afforded her the privilege and honor of placing flowers in her church. She loved giving and she gave so much of herself to so many. She will be greatly missed, always, loved and forever cherished. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to those who cared for her and stood vigil throughout her last years. The family will receive friends and family at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Finnegan, Jr. at 736 Woodward Rd., Charleston, on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Govan, PO Box 847, Denmark, SC 29042 or to Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Ave., N. Jennifer and I are sorry for your loss. I lost my mother in 1993 and still miss her dearly. We shall pray for The Lord's grace upon your family during this time of sadness.
