To the Family,

Our prayers are with all of you. Ms O’Neill raised more than just here children, she helped raise the community. We must never forget that she was a true hero in Charleston. From my early years on Spring St (1962-1965) until the last time I visited her in 2006, she always brought a smile to my face and willing shared her wisdom. I am so sorry I couldn’t make it for the funeral, but I want all of you to know that I will miss her and that with time you will all come to realize that she continues to live within all of us. Tony:

The Campbell's (Preisident St) and O'Neill's (Spring Street) were old neighbors during my childhood in Charleston. Your mother represents the passing of a rich era in the city of our birth. Your family has been favored and blessed to have had your mother for so many years. Her legacy will live on through all of you.

To my family,
Although I am not there today, my heart is full thinking of Granny and all of you as you celebrate her home. As I sit at my desk here in Tampa, I have a photo on my desk of Dad, Page, Lindsey and Adam and Granny in Nassau, The Bahamas. Everyone remembers how much fun that trip was! I remember how Granny got tired of being pushed in her wheelchair and Dad (Buddy) sat in the chair while Granny pushed him.
Sorry I can't be there with you today but the kids and I are there in spirit.
Aunt Janice, I love you. Thanks for taking such loving care of Granny.

God bless you.

I married Granny's granddaughter, Staci. I met her before we were married and I think she knew, as Staci and I did, that we were meant for each other. She was the first person in Staci's mother's family to welcome me in. After a brief visit with her, she got up and made me black fish stew (much to her family's surprise as I don't think she did much cooking any more). Then she made me fudge for the drive back up to D.C.. I will always remember Granny as the person who welcomed me into Staci's family and will always love her for that.

Family-

As I sit and reflect, I realize there are many words that can describe grandma. However, the ones that stand out for me are... strong, bold, witty, humorous, proud, and blessed.
Behind each of these words are stories that will bring us a warm smile and/or laughter as we sit around the dinning room table.

97 Years... thats a looooong time. I am proud to be one of the 41 grandchildren.

Much love to you all. I will see you soon.

Love to you all,

November 22, 2008

To Tony, Janice, Marguerite and all of the other children, grandchildren and relatives:

Mrs. O'Neill was a strong and loving mother, one who, when her children are leaning toward being weak, can draw from her as a model of personal and motherly strength. She lived a life in years that most of us in these modern times seem not to be able to achieve. However, considering all of the victories of life that she met and accomplished, I will tell you that "only the test of iron makes fine steel."

"Though her soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light. She has loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night." I say to you, bid her a good day, for morning has broken for her. God is Life, Life is eternal, and just as God could never cease to be, neither could she, having been made in God's image and likeness, as we all are, as Spiritual Beings. She has been released from the bondage of her five limiting senses. She is now free and unlimited as a part of all there is - God.
