Dorothy Newton Obituary

NEWTON, Dorothy WALTERBORO - Dorothy Iler Newton, 83, died Monday, February 6, 2006 at Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Mrs. Newton was born January 3, 1923 in Bullock County, GA; a daughter of Sylvester, V. Iler and Miriam Mikell Iler. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Walterboro. She and her late husband, Danforth A. Newton, had been owners of the Piggly Wiggly grocery in Walterboro for many years. She is survived by two sons, Joseph Mikell (Mickey) Newton of Walterboro and Dan A. (Danny) Newton, Jr. of Edisto Island; a daughter, Sylvia N. Rowland of Walterboro; a sister, Louella I. Davis of Brunswick, GA; three brothers, William H. Iler of Bloomingdale, GA, Ben Iler of Inverness, FL, and John Iler of Bluffton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, at the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street, Walterboro, SC. Memorials may be made to the Colleton County Memorial Library, 600 Hampton Street, Walterboro, SC 29488 or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 650, Walterboro, SC 29488. To the Newton and Iler families: My deepest condolences on the death of "Aunt Dot". I met her through my dearest friend Willene and loved her very much. The three of us had many fun times together and I shall miss her very much. A light has gone out in my life.
