Dorothy Hutchinson Obituary

HUTCHINSON, Dorothy Funeral Services for Mrs. Dorothy Simmons Hutchinson was held Saturday, February 4, 2006, 11:00 AM at Branch AME Church, 482 Jedburg Road, Summerville, SC 29483, Rev. Thornell Thompson, Pastor. M rs. Dorothy Simmons Hutchinson was born to Addie Lemon Simmons and James Marion Simmons on August 8, 1947 in Jedburg, South Carolina . She was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. She was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated from Alston High School in 1965. After which she attended Southeastern Business Institute in Charleston, South Carolina. At an early age she became a member of Branch A.M.E Church and at the time of her death she served as the President of the Women's Missionary Society, member of the Trustee Board, and sand on the Gospel Choir. She was united in holy wedlock to Richard W. Hutchinson in 1967 and to this union two children were born. She was a dedicated, inspirational, and loving mother. She believed in God and his principals and even at the peak of her illness her faith in God never wavered. She was the leader of her family putting God first and foremost before all endeavors and was spiritually prepared to answer God's call on Wednesday morning, February 1, 2006. Dorothy was a retired civil service employee whose career began at the Charleston Naval Yard in 1966 working in the Plans branch, where she worked until she moved in 1975 to Dover, DE with her husband and family. Following Delaware, her husband's assignments took her to R.A.F Lankenheath, England and Nellis Air Force Base, NV. Dorothy and her family returned to Summerville in 1992, when her husband was reassigned to Charleston A.F.B. Returning home, she worked at the Charleston Naval Hospital Pharmacy until she retired in 1998 after 32 years of faithful federal civil service. After her civil service retirement she took a part time job working as an assistant in the School-to-Work program at Summerville High School. Of all the jobs she had, this job was the most satisfying. Dorothy enjoyed singing gospel songs, reading the paper, helping other people, and sharing time with family. She leaves to cherish her precious memory, a devoted and loving husband, CMSGT (Ret.) Richard Hutchinson, one son, Dwayne Hutchinson (Laurie) from Las Vegas, NV, one daughter, Katrina Hutchinson from Pendleton, SC, two grandchildren, Aspen and Haley, three sisters, Hattie Spruell, Jannette Alston and Mary Smith all from Summerville, SC, six sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ALBERT A. GLOVER FUNERAL HOME, 113 BRYAN ST., SUMMERVILLE, SC, 29483, PHONE (843) 871-1528. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.
