Dorothy Hutchinson Obituary

Dorothy Jean "Dot" Hutchinson Charleston - Dorothy Jean "Dot" Hutchinson, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of William Holmes Hutchinson, Jr., entered into eternal rest Monday, July 26, 2021. Her service will be held Monday, August, 2, 2021, at 11 a.m. in Pinecrest Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Dot was born May 30, 1934 in Cairo, Georgia, daughter of Norman Thomas Kelly and Thelma Butler Kelly. She was a retired Chief of the Fire Prevention Education Division with the Charleston, SC Fire Department. Dot received her Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Midlands Tech Institute. She served as Assistant Chief in the Fire Inspection and Arson Investigation Division of the Charleston, SC, Fire Department. Dot was active in the American Business Women's Association, the Memminger Hall Garden Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Woodmen of the World. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, where she was active for many years, and also served as the Historian. Dot was a detail oriented woman who was also very smart, loving and caring. Survivors include grandchildren, Christy (T.A.) Fulmer, Charleston, SC, Bright (Bobby) Soles, Little River, SC, Nick (Jordan) Hutchinson, Charleston, SC, Aubree Hutchinson, Summerville, SC, Haley (Josh) Hurst, Rock Hill, SC; great-grandchildren, Chase Hughes, Charleston, SC, Claire Fulmer, Charleston, SC, Giuilana Hurst, Rock Hill, SC, Jasper Hutchinson, Charleston, SC, Hunter Carraway, Charleston, SC; daughter-in-law, Betsy Hutchinson, Spartanburg, SC; three sisters, Gwen K. Robinson, Cairo, GA, Maxine K. (Bob) Pisano, Rome, NY, Elaine K. Merritt, Tallahassee, FL; and two brothers, Kermit (Evelyn) Kelly, Cairo, GA and Kenneth (Annette) Kelly, Thomasville, GA. In addition to her husband, Dot was preceded in death by her sons, Billy Hutchinson and Randy Hutchinson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church. I am so very sorry for your loss. Mrs. Dot was always willing to help everyone in the department. She was truly an asset to the members and citizens of Charleston. She will be missed. God bless and send his comfort to all of you.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Dot. She worked with my daddy, Chief Seyle, at the fire department. She was a kind and loving lady, and I have fond memories of her. Keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers, during this difficult time.
