Dorothy Harvey Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Harvey Summerville - Dorothy C. "Dot" Harvey 92, widow of Theodore K. Harvey passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 AM at the New Hope United Methodist Church, Jedburg Road. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at Parks Funeral Home from 6-8 PM and Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Flowers are accepted or memorials can be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church, 1253 Jedburg Rd. Summerville, SC 29483. Dot was born April 28, 1924 a daughter of Luten J. Chinners and Clara Boykin Chinners. She was a graduate of Berkeley High School and worked at Condon's downtown until her marriage to T.K. Harvey on August 15, 1946.Together they opened a small grocery store in the New Hope community, which she managed while T.K. worked at the Naval Weapons Station. She was a true southern lady that loved to cook, especially Sunday dinner for her family and friends. She had a servant's heart and loved serving others. She loved a full table on Sundays. She loved her church, in which she cleaned for 54 years. She sang in the choir for many years. She was a member of New Hope Ladies Circle and served on various committees in the church for many years. She was predeceased by three brothers, Richard S. Chinners, Herman R. Chinners, Donald L. Chinners; a sister, Margie C. Moore; and three half-brothers, Emmett, Howard, and Ernest Chinners. Dot is survived by two sisters, Myrtis C. Smith and Jean C. Alexander, both of Summerville; four sons, Kenneth R. Harvey (Sandy), Arnold Dale Harvey (Sally), Terry L. Harvey, and Gerald Glenn Harvey (Sue); five grandchildren, Bryan, Josh, Justin, Kenny, and Kyle Harvey. What a beautiful child of God. She always made you feel welcome in her home and at New Hope UMC. She is with Jesus and all the saints that have gone before her. We will keep all the family in our thoughts and prayers.
