Dorothy Cone Obituary

Dorothy Cone CHARLESTON - Dorothy F. Cone, 88, of Charleston, the widow of Charles L. Cone, Sr., passed away October 21, 2013 at the Hospice Center of Mt. Pleasant from a decline in her long term illness. Dorothy was born in Blackville, SC in 1925 to Harry and Pearl Delk and graduated from Memminger School for girls in Charleston. On March 14, 1947, she married our father and resided in downtown Charleston until moving West Ashley in 1949. Dot worked with Nabisco Company for several years and after her children were older she began employment with the John Huguley Company for approximately five years. She was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church since 1949 where she was active in WMU, a faithful Sunday school teacher for youth girls and later for adult women for over 40 years. Our mother, Dorothy F. Cone, was given to us from our heavenly father as a mother compelled by love. She spent her life doing for others and teaching her beloved Sunday school classes at Ashley River Baptist Church for over 40 years. Our mother cared for us until her last breath, always concerned for others and was a mother who lived what she believed. She was always there to listen to her children with a heart of love and offered her healing to our broken hearts, broken marriages and grandchildren growing up. She was truly like a tree planted by water, sending out its roots by the stream that didn't fear when heat came. Her leaves stayed green. She left our family with so many sweet memories that we will save in our hearts and remind our children of the gifts she gave to all who knew her. She was a blessing to all who loved her and her memory will live in us. For our mother, Jesus promises: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not let them be afraid. Our mother now has Jesus' peace. Surviving family members are Lee Cone and wife, Nancy, of Ravenel, Annette Rohling and her husband, Carl, of Charleston; four grandchildren, Rhett Craven of Columbia, Cooper Craven and his wife, Samantha, of Charleston, Amy Sain and her husband, Scott, of Morganton, NC and Jennifer Hegler and her husband, Jon, of Greenwood; 12 great-grandchildren and a niece, Donna Mundy, of Newberry and Daphin Delk of Charleston. The relatives and friends of Dorothy F. Cone are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Graveside, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. Her Guestbook may be signed at www.JamesAMcalister.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church 1101 Savannah Hwy. Charleston, SC 29407 or Ronald McDonald House, 81 Gadsden St. Charleston, SC 29401. Arrangements by JAMES A. What a Special Lady, Annette you and Lee were blessed with a wonderful mother that loved you dearly. I can ofter recall her remarks when she looked at you and said she is so beautiful and he is so handsome. Her light in this world was very bright.

Aunt Dot was a "special" lady during my visits with her and Uncle Charles. Her love and guidance had a great impact on my life. Aunt Dot was firm but fair and that attitude has served me well over the years that I have been in education. Aunt Dot- We Love You!!
