Dorothy Comar Obituary

Dorothy (Dot) Comar Mt. Pleasant - Dorothy (Dot) Spain Comar, 96, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2021, at the Palms of Mount Pleasant. Dot was born on March 18, 1925, in Charleston, South Carolina, to George and Cleo (Miller) Spain. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Willie Comar; daughters, Judy Hastings and Jane Mason; sister, Mary Abbott (Dick); and brothers, George Spain (Peggy) and Herbie Spain (Joan). She is survived by daughters, Kathy Bustos (Joe), Connie Clements (Chris), Pat Johnson (Van); sons-in-law, David Hastings and George Mason; and grandchildren, Kelly, Brian, Keith, Stephanie, Camden, Stephen, Michael, Jesse, Penny, Billy and Earl. She was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Willie, Emily, Charlotte, Dominic and Blake. To all her grands she was affectionately known as "Dawa Dot". In addition, she had many nieces and nephews. Dot grew up in Charleston and graduated from Bishop England High School in 1941 and Saint Francis Xavier School of Nursing in 1946. The Comar Family moved to Mount Pleasant in 1952. She spent a career in nursing while raising five daughters. Dot and Willie spent their time volunteering at Meals on Wheels for over 20 years, visiting their many friends in Mount Pleasant and attending family gatherings. Dot enjoyed playing cards and attending "The Club" with high school friends. These ladies maintained their club and friendship for over fifty years trading experiences of family life. She also attended Our Lady of Prompt Succor (OLOPS) meetings for many years where she was the secretary. In later years, Dot enjoyed crocheting and meeting new friends at the Beach House at Christ our King Church. The family will receive friends Monday, November 29, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 12:00 PM at Christ our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464, immediately followed by entombment at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ our King Building Fund or Senior Ministries. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL AND CREMATION, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464, 843-884-3833.
