Dorothy Colebaugh was a wonderful, kind and understanding woman. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, she was a model of understanding and support.

I met the Colebaughs in 1984 as a young Westvaco salesman recently relocated to Charleston from NY. Over time they became like second parents to me. They took me in during tough professional and personal times and helped put the world back in perspective. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and a skilled artist. She made a porcelain doll for my mother for Christmas one year. It brought tears to my Moms eyes.

I feel so bad for having missed both their services. I hope their children forgive me. Dave died the day I was getting married and Dorothys service was 2 days after my own mother fell and fractured her spine. But I did see her a week before she passed, in bed barely able to lift her head off the pillow. How are you Dorothy I said into her ear.OK she said. What can you do? And she laughed.

Dorothy was a large part of the reason that we live in Charleston. Linda and I were here for a get-acquainted weekend March 1971 and had never lived anywhere other than our comfortable surroundings in Brandywine Hundred. Dave and Dorothy invited us to dinner at Cavalero and to their home afterward, and made us feel at home. We learned that they were both native of central Pa as were Linda's parents, and made is feel instantly welcome to Charleston. We've mostly been here ever since. We convey to their children, grand children, great grand children and great great grandchildren out heartfelt condolences, and ask that you all remember your good fortune to have had Dave and Dorothy for as long as you did.
