Dorothy Caulder Obituary

Dorothy Louise Caulder CHARLESTON - Dorothy Louise Caulder was born in Greenville County, South Carolina, on May 17, 1927, to Fred and Vesta Woodson. She was the oldest of four children and the only girl. Her family later settled in Elberton, Georgia, where she grew up. Her youngest brother, Dewey, died at the age of three in 1940. She attended Holmes College of the Bible, Furman University and Columbia College where she earned a Bachelors degree. At Holmes, she met her sweetheart, Raymond. His autobiography comments were, "I have fallen in love with the most beautiful girl at Holmes". They were married on April 6, 1952, and settled in Mt. Pleasant. They were blissfully married for 53 years until his death in 2005. Dot and Raymond had four children; their first baby, Millicent Louise Caulder, dying as an infant. They went on to teach, Pastor and eventually become a military family. The Army took them many places and they had many friends they considered family. Dot, Grandmommy, is survived by her three children and their families: Ray and Susan Caulder of West Ashley. Dewey and Peggy Caulder of Mt. Pleasant, and Sharon and Greg Hagan of Atlanta. Any person to have ever had a conversation with Dot knew she was welcoming, friendly to all, always positive and never had a negative word about anyone. Her greatest joy behind knowing her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, was her grandchildren. Her pride and joys in this life are Raymond (25), Dylan (24), Lizzie (23), Chandler (23), Corey (20), Colson (20), Matthew (19) and Preston (17). Even at the end of her life, these grandkids still brought a smile to her face. Funeral services to honor Grandmommy will be held Sunday, June 4, at St. Mark Church, West Ashley. The address is 413 Geddes Ave., Charleston 29407. Visitation starts at 1pm with the funeral at 2pm. Burial follows the service at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Dot & her parents became as close as family when I began working at Woodson's Florist. We often worked hard and fast; yet there was never an unkind word spoken. When Dot was in the states with Family; she would share her Faith with me. It feels like the last Golden Thread of that Beautiful Tapestry of Life has broken. What a Glorious Family Reunion awaited Dot in Heaven. I visualize Dot sitting at Jesus' Feet watching over her Children and Grandchildren until she can some day hold them close to her Heart again. Heaven received a Sweet Angel!

I had the honor of knowing Ms. Dot through her daughter in law, Susan Caulder and her son Ray. She always had this sweet spirit that I always felt, as soon as you came in her presence. Full of God's love and compassion to all. An amazing Christian example.....what comfort in knowing she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.....and that she shared his love on earth with so many.
