Doris Wright Obituary

Doris Baker Wright Charleston - The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Randall Wright are invited to attend her services at 12:30 pm on June 23 in St. Andrews UMC on Hwy 61 in Charleston, SC and interment following in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island. Mrs. Wright died June 19 at the home of her granddaughter, Brooke Miller, following a long illness. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, West Ashley Chapel, Glenn McConnell Pkwy, on June 22 from 6 to 8 pm. Mrs. Wright was born August 25, 1925 in Charleston to Jesse David Baker, Sr. and Mary E. Slemons Baker. She attended Crafts School and Meminger High School when it was a girl's school. She was a lifelong resident of Charleston, except for three years in Greenville, SC, during which time she graduated from Greenville Sr. High School. She worked as a paralegal in the Sixth Naval District, the Social Security Board of Hearings and Appeals, and the law office of Rob Wendt. She was a former member of the Trinity, Bethel, and John Wesley Methodist Churches and of First Baptist Church of Charleston. Although her first name was Mildred, no one ever called her that. She was known as Doris to her friends and loving family. She was an excellent tennis player who was often seen at the West Ashley Racquet Club (now Maybank Tennis Center), then co-owned by her husband, helping young players learn the game and playing in tournaments there. She had a fine soprano voice and was a valued member of the choirs at the churches she attended. She was devoted above all to her family, surrounding them with unconditional love and support. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, her parents, seven sisters and brothers, and her son-in-law, Robert W. Woods. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Baker Reeves of Toccoa, GA; her daughters, Jada Irene Gaynor (Greg) of Charleston, SC, and Dr. Rhonda Doris Wright of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Jared C. Wright (Amy), Brooke Limehouse Miller (Glenn), and Caroline Ramsey Russell (Tony); nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
