Doris Madelon Shaffer BRADENTON, FL - Doris Madelon Shaffer, 88, of Bradenton, FL, widow of Kenneth W. Shaffer, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Trident Medical Center surrounded by her loving children. A memorial service will be lead by the Rev. Robert Green on January 17, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Palm Lake Estates, 808 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Oneco United Methodist Church, 2112 53rd Avenue East (State Road 70), Bradenton, FL 34203. Doris was born June 23, 1921 in Wharton, OH, a daughter of the late Nathan Kear and Nellie Bristoll Kear. She graduated from high school in Wharton, OH, and later attended Bowling Green State University. She was employed for many years as an administrative assistant in public education. She had a strong faith and attended Oneco United Methodist Church. Doris enjoyed spending time playing her favorite card game, Euchre, along with shuffle board and bingo. She was an avid reader. She loved her family very much and will be deeply missed. Doris is survived by her son Roger Shaffer (Linda) of Franktown, CO, her daughter Diane Thompson (David) of Summerville, SC, her brother J. B. Kear of Wharton, OH, four grand children, Jamison Shaffer of Franktown, CO, Colin Shaffer of Fort Collins, CO, Jennifer O'Barr of Hartwell, GA, and Lisa Wease of North Charleston, SC, and four great-grandchildren.
