Doris Varner Powell SUMMERVILLE - Doris Varner Powell, 85, of Summerville, SC, wife of Alfred Thomas Powell, Sr., died Friday, September 18, 2009, at her residence. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, September 22, 2009, at St. John The Beloved Catholic Church. The rite of committal will take place at Ridgeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends may visit at PARKS FUNERAL HOME Monday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock with a Vigil Service beginning at 6:30 o'clock in the funeral home parlor. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, c/o HCR Manor Care Foundation, 333 N. Summit St., PO Box 10086, Toledo, OH 43699-0086. Mrs. Powell was born May 21, 1924 in Ridgeville, SC, a daughter of Joseph Peter Varner and Annie Salisbury Varner. She was a retired flower vendor at the Coastal Carolina Flea Market. She was a member of St. John The Beloved Catholic Church in Summerville. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Thomas Powell, Sr. of Summerville; four stepsons, Alfred T. Powell, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL, Jack G. Powell of Poolesville, MD, Duane F. Powell of Gaithersburg, MD, and Robert P. Powell of Chandler, AZ; five stepdaughters, Helen P. O'Doherty of San Francisco, CA, Rose Marie P. Chambers of Pensacola, FL, Marty Lynn P. Charlton of Hagerstown, MD, Sue Ellen P. Mello of Tallahassee, FL, and Mary Grace P.
