Doris Long Obituary

LONG, Doris FAIRHOPE, AL - Doris Ann "Dotti" Long was born in Roanoke, Alabama, the first of six to Bill and Paula McMurray on October 8, 1945. As a big sister, she had a parental influence on her sisters and brothers through many moves as an Air Force family. Fell in Love when she was 18 and married in Louisana. Raised a family and built countless friendships in Pensacola, Charlotte, Savannah, Charleston, Gulf Breeze and Fairhope and after an 11 year cancer battle, died peacefully and securely in the Lord at 12:37 PM on September 26, 2007 surrounded by her family, at home in Fairhope. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Calvin Long, children and spouses. Daughters, Teresa (Coby) Bland pf Colorado Springs, CO, Amy (Paul) Rhyne of Columbia, SC. Sons, Buddy (Heather) Long of Greenville, SC, Joseph (Amanda) Long of Fairhope, AL. Sisters, Paula (Earl) Malone of Montrose, AL, Jane (Tom) McMillian of Brewton, Susan (Jeff) Combs of Fairhope, Al. Brothers Bill (Dawn) McMurray of Fairhope, Al. and Jon (Pam) McMurray of Fairhope, Al. Thirteen Grandchildren: Zachary, Caroline, Jacob and Scott Bland; Calvin, Wilson, Anna Claire, Lauren and Bobby Long; Paul, Sarah Elizabeth and Emma Grace Rhyne and Abby Kate Long. Her mother Paula McMurray of Fairhope, Al. She loved her Lord and her family and selflessly served the loves of her life to the end, leaving us all thankful to have been part of her life. Proverbs 31:10-31 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The Heart of her husband dost safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of Her life. She riseth also while it is yet night and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens... She girdeth her loins with strength and strengthen her arms... He candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet... Her husband is known in the gates, where he sitteth among the elders of the land. Strength and honor are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom: and her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Visitation will be on Friday, September 28, 2007, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOME in Fairhope, Al. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Montrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Grace Fellowship Church, c/o 20755 Lacey Road, Silverhill, Al. 36576 or Covenant Hospice, 1040 Stanton Road, Suite D, Daphne, Al. 36526. Words can not express how I feel. She left good memories here in Charleston of her wonderful smile, sharing of family and always making a new friend. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I wanted to express how sad I was to hear of Dotti's passing. To Theresa, Amy, Buddy, and Joe: I know how hard it is to lose a mother. Dotti had my mother's name. To Paula, Jane, Sue, Bill and Jon, I can't even imagine how it must feel to lose a sibling, but I know you must miss her very much. I am thankful that I got to be close to her for at least a brief period of my life. She always welcomed me in her home and in her heart. To Calvin and my Aunt Polly: I hold you in my prayers and cherish that I got to witness your precious love for her. Please know that I would be honored if I could help in any way during this time - to listen or in any other way. I would be honored to be called upon. I love you.

Dotti was one of the most loving and loved gracious ladies that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My time as her friend will always be some of my favorite memories. She is now at peace, with God and I am sure looking down on us with that wonderful smile. May God be with the family in this time of sadness and may they recall the joy and rejoice in her abundant life.

Words alone cannot adequately express how saddened I am to learn of Dotti's passing. I am however, uplifted, knowing she is with the Lord and no longer suffers. Dotti will always hold a special place in my heart. I will never forget the way she and Calvin welcomed me into their home when I was stationed in Charleston. My favorite special memory is of the chocolate pie she made for me on my birthday one year. She did that after having known me for only a week or two. I wish I would have told her how comforting that was to me when I was so far from my own family. I'll never forget that. To Calvin, Theresa, Buddy, Amy and Joe: My heartfelt condolences to all of you and may you find comfort and peace during this difficult time. Her goodness and caring lives on through all of you.
