Elizabeth McGlynn Verona SUMMERVILLE - With heavy but grateful hearts, the family of Liz McGlynn Verona announced that she passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2025. Elizabeth Ann Baldus was born on August 19, 1937, in La Plata, Maryland, to Carl Baldus, Sr. and Madeline Bray Baldus. Growing up in a tobacco-agricultural area "Betty" Baldus as she was known, was very active in 4H, earning national honors. She could cook, sew, clean, plant and just plain work her way through any situation. Betty had a tremendous work ethic that defined her life. She graduated from Mercy College in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1958, earning her nursing degree. She made nursing her lifelong passion and career and while working in the emergency room at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut, she met a handsome young police officer, Joe McGlynn. Joe and Liz fell in love and were married in 1960 and remained so until Joe passed away in 2003. After Mom and Dad raised their boys, Glynn and Darren, in Norwalk, Connecticut, and retired, they moved to Summerville, South Carolina. They always travelled and volunteered. Despite the distance, they were always a part of their six grandkid's lives. The grandkids all have fond memories of their visits and the hotel pools that Papa and Mema spent countless hours in with them. Even up until her passing, Mema was the consummate homemaker, always there for her family, providing big meals at various holiday gatherings. In 2013, after dad had been gone for over a decade, Mom met a gem of a guy named Hal Verona, who had been recently widowed. What started as a chance encounter at a community swim club dinner, became a beautiful 11-year marriage that was nothing short of magical. Liz was predeceased by her brother, Carl Baldus, Jr. and her sister, Mary Anne Mudd, both of La Plata, Maryland. She is survived by her husband, Hal; her two sons: Glynn (wife, Elena) of Southbury, Connecticut, and Darren (wife, Rosie) of San Diego, California. The two boys and their wives each had three children who, in turn, expanded Liz' family to five great-grandkids. During the last months of her life, Mema's granddaughter, Christina, lovingly cared for her until she passed. Mema always referred to Christina as a God-send and indeed she was right! On Saturday September 20, 2025, an hour-long visitation is scheduled at 11:30 AM at Saint John the Beloved Catholic Church's Madden Hall in Summerville, South Carolina. This will be immediately followed by a funeral Mass at 12:30 PM. All are invited.
