Dora Smith Obituary

SMITH, Dora ESTILL - Mrs. Dora Mixon Smith, 88, of Two Sisters Ferry Road near Estill, died Monday, December 15, 2008 in the Hampton Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. Born August 13, 1920 in Hampton County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Duncan Mixon and Cornelia Lightsey Mixon. Mrs. Smith's greatest enjoyment was being a homemaker and caring for her family and others. She attended Nixville Baptist Church her entire life and was a member for 75 years. She was the founder of the Royal Ambassador Program (RA's) and the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) in the church and was also a Sunday School and Training Union Teacher. She loved to fish and was an avid gardener. She is survived by one son, Marion Smith of Estill; one grandson, Fran Smith of Beaufort; a special niece, Connie Wooten of Estill as well as numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Teresa Cope of Hampton. She was married to the late Walter Gregory Smith and was predeceased by her brother, Irvin B. Mixon and her sister, Lurlene M. Chassereau. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 11 AM in the Nixville Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Paul Creason, with her former RA members acting as honorary pall bearers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street, Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) on Wednesday evening from 5 until 8 PM.
