He served faithfully for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force before retiring in 1975. Don was a strong Christian man and an active member of the United Pentecostal Church and served in various departments throughout his life. He was known as a true "People Person", showing kindness and love to everyone he met. Don never met a "stranger" and spoke to all he encountered. He loved to laugh and joke with everyone. Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne Johnson Ross; daughter, Dianne Ross both of Reidsville, NC; son, Don "Donnie" Ross of Cross, SC; granddaughter, Amber Ross Allen (Mike) of Charleston, SC; niece, Edna Earl Talley (James); and nephew, Ronnie Laws all of Reidsville, NC. He was preceded in death by two sisters, a niece and nephew. The family wants to thank all the doctors, nurses, & caregivers of Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro, North Carolina for all the compassion and care given during his stay. He spoke highly of many that attended to his needs. We appreciate all the kindness, love, and prayers from the many friends and family through this difficult time. Bro and Sis Ross and children go many years back with us to the late 70's or early 80's! Not only were they dearest as Brothers and Sisters in the Lord, but the best of everyday friends! They often guided us in many decisions as true elders in the Lord. Bro Ross and I would often play table tennis on the air force base...I just loved that man and his great sound of laughter!
Earth's loss will be certainly Heavens gain! all off their children were so wonderful, as they learned from Mom and Dad. I just miss our breakfasts together and see that smiling face so clearly! Our prayers are with all of his family for comfort and peace in this time of great loss!
May His Comfort , Comfort You,
Bro Joe and Janice Mack

I'll always remember the kindness that Don and Joann showed me when I lived in Charleston. It was a pleasure to get to know them and fell the love they had for all. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. One day we will be with him again .

Many happy memories with Bro Ross. We did many things together and ate lots of breakfasts together. I can see him drinking coffee in my mind now. He loved his family a lot, talking about them when we talked, at times. Even though he is in heaven I will never forget him! LOVE Rodney
