Donald Haynie Obituary

It was a pleasure to work with Don over the past several years and we are saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was fortunate to have had many dealings with Don in the commercial real estate business. He was always ready to help his clients even when the commissions were small. His honesty will be missed.

An old text states "Without friends, existence is empty, sterile, pointless". To all of us who shared time with Don at Furman he defined friend. Please know he will be missed and you, his family, are in our thoughts.

What great memories were created by Greech ,living with him our senior year at Furman was one of the best of my life. His kindness and fun loving ways will always warm my heart.

It was by chance I got to see Greech at the reunion last month after so many years had passed since our Furman days. Don had not changed. You will be missed old friend.

To the Family and Friends of Don. We worked with Don for many years on insurance issues. He was always a pleasure to work with.

Wow, I can't believe that this has happened to Don and my prayers are with him and the family. I have been out of Charleston for a long time - I was a part of the 80's volleyball years too. My favorite Don story has to do with him having the imaginary twin brother, John. He was very convincing to certain people that there were actually two of him!!! I got the email letting me know about Don. I couldn't believe it! When I lived in Charleston, we shared many moments of great fun with our volleyball friends. I remember many of the road trips we took and lots of the get-together's we had. He was a good player and one of the nicest men I knew. Even though I had not been in touch in many years, I can still remember everything. Greech. Yes, that is what almost everyone called him. All my prayers and condolences to his family. He will be sorely missed.

My deepest sympathy to the Haynie family, I was greatly saddened to hear of Don’s passing. Although we had lost touch over the years I’ll never forget Greech. He was the first person (along with John Wolfram) that I meet at Furman. As a recruit, Greech and John hosted me during my first visit. Greech’s sense of humor and great smile helped convince me that Furman would be the right choice. He was such a kind person who will be missed by everyone.

The best friend anyone could ask for who was always there for me and always made time for my kids. He was a big guy with a bigger heart.

Juli - Lisa, Connor, Jordan and I feel like we have lost a close family member. And in reality, we did. The kids loved Greech like a close uncle, and he was like a close brother to me. I'm not sure we'll ever get over the loss. But as I tell my kids, you are fortunate to have gotten to know someone like Greech. There aren't too many like him. The lives that he has touched so positively will cause the memories of him to be perpetually told and retold. I'm betting my kids will talk to their kids about him. Thanks for the memories, Greechie.

My most sincere heartfelt condolences to Don's family. I was a friend of Cindi's in high school and his late sister Toni as a young mother. Don's passing touched me and am very saddened for all of his family. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was surprised and very grieved to here of my cousin Don’s passing tonight. The entire Gaskins family wishes to extend our sincere condolences to his wife and children, brother Hank, Linda, Cyndi, Deloris, and Aunt Mary. Don was always so happy and full of life when we were all growing up. I will always remember his curly blonde hair and great big smile.

We are so sorry for your loss. Even though John and I never had a chance to meet Greech, Jason, Brian and Ana spoke highly of him and talked about their night out with him in Missoula. I am sure we missed knowing a great man. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.

Greech, you were such a gentle soul, a loving husband, father and friend. For 34 years I have known that your smiling face would be there at FU Homecoming whenever I could be there, and it was so wonderful to watch you and Juli find happiness together. Homecoming will never be the same without you, but be sure that the time will be filled with stories and happy memories of you: You will never be far away! Rest well, my friend.

Don was my high school sweetheart and a wonderful and special part of my life. My deepest sympathy and prayers to his family.

Don was one of the finest gentlemen
that I have ever met. We were partners at Spectrum at the begining. He was the most levelheaded and dependable friend you could have. We never took the last fishing trip we kept promising eachother. My Loss. May God bless his family and friends. God has gained a grest partner!

I haven't seen Greech in many years, but it's clear that the wonderful sense of humor and kindness he displayed during our years at Furman, brought him a lifetime of loving family and friends.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Don's passing. He was a good friend and will be remembered by me and my family in our fondest memories always.

The old Bay Front gang will always remember Don. He added so much class to our group. My wife Debbie also knew Don from high school and will remember Don a genuinely nice person.

Saddened to learn of Don's passing. Even though we lost touch long ago, I remember Greech and Furman fondly. My sympathy to all.

This is a shock to me. Don or Greech as I knew him was a true gentleman. I always looked forward to seeing him at homecoming. Wishing peace for all the family.

Greech, was a great friend at Furman and we all will miss him. My prayers are with you and it is hard to understand why.

As a member of our select college group Don's (Greech) passing will affect us all. I am glad my son and I got to visit with him and Julie this summer and know that he will be welcomed with open arms in heaven. We have lost a dear friend.

Loosing one of my Furman Classmates is hard to take, just saw Don at our 35th Furman Class Reunion and he looked so good. God bless his family during this difficult time.

Can't believe it. So sorry to hear of Don's passing. I was Don's secretary at Spectrum back in the late 80's. He was a great guy! So hard to believe he's gone. Wishing his family peace.

I knew Don from our Chambe of Commerce days. He was a class act. My deepest sympathy.

Don, or "Greech" as he came to be known by his Furman friends, was a giant of a man who leaves a hugh hole in the lives of many. We feel honored and privileged to have known him.

I'm still in shock. Don was by boss and like a brother to me for over 10 years. Don will be missed for many years.

I am deeply sadden to read about Don's passing. Even though we have not stayed in touch in recent years, I still considered Don a friend. I have fond memories of him from the old James Island High School "Rams" days. He was a great athlete. My condolences to his family. You are in my prayers.
