Donald Hammock Obituary

Donald Hammock Charleston - Donald Dean Hammock, 82, of Charleston, SC, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017. He was born on October 15, 1934 in Hickman, KY, son of the late Vivian Massey Hammock and the late Arthur Benton Hammock. Don was a 20-year US Army Veteran, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring, he began working for AFLAC, and was with them for 37 years. Don was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. If Don wasn't on the golf course, you could find him at the bowling alley. He adored spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Charles Thomas Hammock. Don is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Tonia Kinsel Hammock of Charleston, SC; two sons: Donald Michael Hammock of Pensacola, FL and Arthur Kenneth Hammock and his wife, Tina, of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Jo Lea Burroughs and her husband, Henry, of Brooklet, GA; 7 grandchildren: Ryan and Taylor Burroughs; Brittany and Joshua Hammock; and Mark, Rachel and Michelle Hammock; and one sister, Mary Bennett of Fulton, KY. A Funeral Mass will be held on August 17, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Boulevard, Charleston, SC, 29407. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Victory House, 29461 Sidneys Rd, Walterboro, SC 29488. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted to www.mcalister-smith.com. Mr. Hammock was a very nice man. I met him years ago, the company I work for, had Aflac insurance and he was the agent. He will always bring us candy during the holiday and the Aflac duck. My condolence to the family.
