Donald Cone Obituary

Donald Kenneth "D.K." Cone BARNWELL, SC - Mr. Donald Kenneth "D.K." Cone, affectionately known by all as "Kenny", husband of Cornelia "Nelia" Stevenson Cone, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home in Barnwell surrounded by his loving family. He was 73. Kenny was born in Orangeburg January 12, 1942 a son of Laura Jennings Cone and the late George Horace Cone. A graduate of Newberry College, he was the retired manager of Carolina Eastern in Sycamore, and was the former owner and operator of Cone Farms Inc. Kenny was a lifelong member of the Sycamore Baptist Church, and was actively involved in the life of his community. He was a former president of the Fairfax Jaycees, was Chairman of the Board for Patrick Henry Academy in 1997, and was a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Rivers Bridge Camp #842, where he served as the Lt. Commander in 1996. In addition to his wife of Barnwell, and his mother of Sycamore, he is survived by his sons Alex Cone of Allendale, SC and Andy Cone of Camden, SC. He also leaves behind his step-daughter Greta L. McMahon (Patrick) of Chapin, SC and three grandchildren: Morgan, Reagan and Brendan. He was preceded in death by his first wife Delaine H. Cone. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, July 24, 2015 at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro. Burial will follow in the Fairfax Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the Keith Smith Funeral Home, 128 Water Street in Allendale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in his memory to either the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Rivers Bridge Camp #842, 561 Appleton Road, Allendale, SC 29810, or to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
