Donald Blair Obituary

Donald Wayne Blair, Sr. GOOSE CREEK - Donald Wayne Blair, Sr., 51, of Goose Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Born in St. Clair, Illinois, he was the son of the late Bruce and Janice Blair. Mr. Blair served his country in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief. His ambition of furthering his knowledge and education eventually led him to becoming a teacher. For over 15 years, he worked at Goose Creek High School. Mr. Blair always felt that being a teacher was not a job, but his calling. He most recently taught Mechatronics and in 2014, he was "Teacher of the Year". He enjoyed fishing and being with his family. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Donna Blair of Goose Creek; son, Donald Blair, Jr., of North Charleston; daughter, Debra Blair and her fiance; Raymond Nichols of Ladson; brother, Daniel Blair and his wife Judy of North Ridgeland Hills, TX; grandchildren, Addison, Arayonna, and R.J. Besides his parents, he is predeceased in death by his son, Benjamin "Freddy" Blair. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 30th, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, GOOSE CREEK CHAPEL. A memorial service will be at 7:00 pm. Donna, Donald, and Deb,
My sincere apologies for not being able to make it to services tonight and to give my support to your family. But you guys know you are forever in my hearts just like Wayne is. He was a great man and a great father, took Freddy in as one of his own and raised you all perfectly. He was all about his family and his students. That was his life. He loved you Donna to the fullest. My condolences to you all. I'm always here if you need me. I love you all as family.

He gave so much to his family, country, friends and GCHS. I worked with him, such a delightful teacher to see on a daily. One of the "Good Guys". RIP.

He taught my daughter, Shannon, and worked tirelessly to inspire kids who would've been lost without his guidance. When the apprenticeship programs began, he tried like crazy to get her & another in as seniors, but the programs were starred for juniors. When another business came on board, he insisted on the two seniors getting it. When he called me to tell me he was going to change her life, he sure did. His greatest joy was seeing "his" kids succeed. I'm going to miss him as a friend, as a colleague, and as someone who did so much for others.

Mr.Blair was an amazing man, and some of the best memories at GCHS involve him. He was always willing to help you out- or give you the talk to get you in line. He was an amazing teacher who did so much for all the kids. He will be missed very much. My heart and prayers to Mrs .Blair she's the sweetest lady, I feel so lucky you know this family, and have gone to school with all of them. Rest in Peace Mr. Blair! Love ya!

Mr. Blair was my son's teacher. When my son, Jason, ran into a bit of trouble with his grades and needed help with classwork and/or homework, one call to Mr. Blair was all it took to get Jason back on track. I marveled over the great floats the students put together each year for the parade under Mr. Blair's guiding hand. I am truly saddened that he is no longer with us. May God hold the Blair family in his gentle hands as they go through the many different levels of grief. My sincerest sympathies.

The family of Mr. Blair....
As I read over the guest book entrees I see a man who shaped so many young men lives. Mr. Blair had that same magic where Gregory was concerned. If Gregory was not holding up his core class work all I had to do was to email Mr.Blair would let Gregory know I emailed and he would have the desk where he could see others doing shop work as Gregory worked on class work. He would check with the teachers to make sure he was still on point. That only had to happen a few times. After he walked across the stage at graduation I saw a big smile as he hugged Mr. Blair. I am sad that others at Goose Creek High School will not have that teacher with the big heart and a helping hand. Your family is being lifted in our prayers. I pray that the Lord will hold your family so very tightly as you navigated through the grief process.

My sons had Mr Blair as a techer but to them he was so much more. He was a mentor, teacher and an ear whenever they needed one. I am thankful for all that he taught my boys. We will be praying for you, Mrs. Blair and your family during this most difficult time; praying that the God will give you comfort and peace as you go thru each day.
