I can't think about home, back in Coram, without thinking about Mrs. Maher and the whole Maher family. I've known her since I was 5 years old. They were one of the families we grew up playing with in the cul-de-sac, riding bikes in the neighborhood, graduating high school together, and smartly, one of us marrying a Maher son. We are forever tied to the Mahers. The Maher house was always a haven for us to come to after school or hang out. Mrs. Maher was a big part of the fun and comfort. She fed us, hung out with us, and told funny stories.
I´ll never forget her laugh. A memory that stands out is her pretending to swoon when Rob sang Elvis songs in the den when we were 12 or 13. She threw her scarf repeatedly at Rob and had us in stitches. She was one of the kids always. A few years ago, I finally moved back east. I got a chance to visit her in Charleston. She was the same, just a bit slower. She´d text me every so often and ask me how I was and how my boyfriend was doing. I knew she was so happy for me when I finally met a good one. I feel so lucky to have been in her thoughts when she was going through so much. The texts ended when she was getting more ill. I´d continue to text her occasionally, hoping they were welcome distractions. I wish I could give her one last hug. I know she´s not in pain and can rest in peace now. I miss and love you, Mrs. Maher, and always will.

I have great warm memories of Mrs. Maher. While she was my neighbor, she was a whole lot more to me than a neighbor, she was like a second mom to me. I loved her so much and she will always have a special place in my heart. My earliest memories of her is when we had Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies and milk at her house after school while waiting for our parents to come home from work. She would always meet me at the bus stop , even when my parents were home, to talk on the way to my house. She would also talk to me for hours when I had to wait at her house. She was also so happy to share when we ran out of eggs or flour, I was always happy to talk to her when I would pick them up. I loved hearing her stories. When I had my own kids and when they were playing in the culdesac, she would walk over to chat and keep me company. She was always there for me. She was a beautiful and funny person. Always had a funny comment and made you laugh. She loved red cardinal birds and I would find red cardinal bird related items to give her for a Christmas present. Now every time I see a red cardinal bird I will always think of her. I will miss her a lot! I am so happy and blessed to have these great memories of Mrs. Maher , which I will always treasure in my heart. Love you a lot Mrs. Maher. Rest in peace.
Love always,
Chrissy, Lloyd, Serina and Ayden

I became Ms Maher care giver, and as the days went by it was like family,, she reminded me of my own mother, and I believe I was there for a purpose,,I made sure her days were as comfortable as possible,,,I would like to thank the family for allowing me to take care of her.
