Diana Preston Obituary

Diana Bissey Preston LILBURN, GA - It is with great sadness that the family of Diana Bissey Preston announces her passing after her long battle with cancer on Monday, November 5, 2018, at the age of 69. Diana was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Pauline and her late father, Robert Bissey. She was raised in Charleston, SC and graduated from Clemson University. While at Clemson, she met her husband Larry and moved to Lilburn in 1970. Since her time in Lilburn, she was a devoted wife, mother, educator and steward of her family, friends and community. She began her professional career in the Gwinnett County School System where she taught and worked in various schools. She was always looking for ways to improve her community and with that passion, she started her political career. She was elected and served on the Lilburn City Council for 22 years with her last term as Mayor, where she was the first woman to hold that position in city history. While on the council, she had many accomplishments. Earlier this year, the City of Lilburn awarded her with a Proclamation Day of December 12. Diana also served on numerous boards and organizations in the community. Diana will be forever remembered by her loving husband Larry, and their children, Tracy Preston, Jennifer Glenn (Adam) and Brian Preston; mother, Pauline Bissey; brothers and sisters, Dean Bissey (Patricia), Claudia Budds (Carey), Barbara Haney (Jeff) and Craig Bissey; grandchildren, Preston and Conner Glenn. Diana will also be forever remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Anne Bissey and her brother, Bryan Bissey. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 801 Tom Smith Road, Lilburn, GA 30047. A Celebration of Life reception will follow in the church hall.
