To the parents of this exceptional man....I am so sorry for your loss. I graduated with Derek and we always had a lot of fun together in school. Although we have not seen each other since high school graduation, we have kept in touch through myspace. I was devastated to hear the news of his passing. No one ever wants to out live their children. As a mother, I cannot even imagine what you are going through. May he rest in peace!

To Derek's loved ones,

Although you don't know me, I have something in common With you. I recently lost my 19 year old son (3 weeks ago)unexpectedly. No one can ever imagine the pain that we go through when we lose a child. Although I don't know how your son passed I do know the untouchable pain and the heaviness that fills your heart. Keep your faith and know he is in a better place right now. My prayers go out to you and your loved ones. May God bless you!

I knew Derek through my work at the American College of Physicians in Washington D.C. I'd call Dr. Magera's office about something or other and Derek was always cheerful, courteous and helpful - even though he was very busy! My heartfelt sympathy to his family and colleagues. I'll miss him.

I can't imagine how devastated you both must be. It's so unnatural for us to see our children leave us so soon. You may not remember us but my son and I were very saddened to hear of Derek's passing. We send our condolences. May you find peace and comfort within your family.

I knew Derek from his work at Dr. Magera's. Derek was the kindest and most gentle spirit. He was the kind of person that brightened your day and made a impact on how you felt. I can't tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I knew Derek through Dr. Magera's office, and he was such a wonderful fellow! When I was sick, he fielded every kooky question known to mankind with a gentle, patient smile, and I always felt better just talking to him or being treated by him. When I was well, we joked as much as you can when shots were involved; the last time I saw him I teased him about his goatee and he told me of his new life plans. I am so sorry that those were cut so rudely short and that his wonderful spirit has left our day-to-day experiences. He's one of those rare good souls you meet and never forget, and I certainly won't. Again, my thoughts are with everyone in Derek's family and at his offices, as I know his absence leaves a large void.

We are patients of Dr. Magera office. We met Derek there and he was always such a caring and friendly person. He will truely be missed. Dr. Magera's office wont be the same without him! My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I've known Pat and John since starting at Jones Ford and have always had a great deal of respect for them. I only knew Derek for about a year, but to me he represented the way that young people should be. Derek was a terrific person and I feel that I was better for knowing him.

Words can't describe how we all feel.I loved giving Derek a hard time because he was the only male

co-worker in the office, but I always let him know that I loved him.I'm so sorry for your loss.

Derek and I were good friends in High School. I had lost contact with Derek over the past years. But recently had got back in touch with him. I wish I could have had more time to catch up. I thought there was more time. My sincere condolences to Mr. John and Mrs. Patti. I’m so sorry!!

It has been quite a while since I have hung out with Derek, but as soon as I heard what happened, all the great memories of hanging out with him, Jon, Rob, and James started running through my head like it was yesterday.

John and Mrs. Pat, I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that I am thinking about your family and all of Derek's friends. He was, and still is, a wonderful person. He will always be remembered.

I have worked with Derek and only knew him a short time but as he was who he was it only takes a short time to know what a wonderful person he was, This is due to the love and guidence of family and friends. I met Derek at Dr. Magera's office. I always thought he was such a fine young man, so calm and reassuring. His family should be proud of what he brought to his work place and the way he responded to all of the patients there. I am so truly sorry for your loss. I know I shall miss him!

Derek my friend you were like a brother to me. Since the first time we met at college you were always there with a smile along with your witty style comments. In the six years I have known you; you have given me a lifetime of memories. You thought me how to play hockey when I had never even been on ice. Now I play in three leagues a year and will continue to play knowing you are still there watching and teaching. I will never forget our trips to Columbia during college to see the Stingrays, or the fun we had trying to pronounce the names of the players or where they were from. I will never forget our time working at the Woodlands, the people we met, the jokes we told, and laughs we had. The recent time we spent together at Myrtle Beach was great beyond words. Catching up on lost time meant so much to me and I could tell it did to you. You will forever be missed in my heart, but never absent from my mind. I Love You Derek…rest in peace my friend…



To the Richardson Family; I love you all like my own family. I know there is nothing I can say or do to ease your pains, but God put Derek in my life for a reason. We were nothing alike, but oddly had so much in common. He was like my brother. May God be with your family and peace be with you…

Derek was the first person to befriend me 10 years ago when I moved from here from California. Derek was a caring person that would have gone that extra mile for his friends or family. I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of your family.

I first met you at Dr. magera's office when we we all went out to lunch, from there you made me laugh every time we got together.
