Dennis Haddock Obituary

Dennis L. Haddock CHARLESTON - Dennis Haddock came into the world on November 1, 1955 the youngest son of Euell and Ellen Haddock in Holly, Michigan. He left us on November 1, 2012 at his home in Charleston, SC, (formerly from Colorado Springs, CO) after a 10 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his life partner of 28 years, Marc Edwards, his Godson, Russell Sampson of Colorado Springs, CO, a brother Don (Ann) Haddock of Grand Blanc, MI, Niece Kelly (Chris) Hale and great niece Sloan of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Nephew Jeff (Dennille) Haddock and great nieces Kayla and Brooke and great nephew James of New South Lyon, MI. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends throughout the United States. Dennis was predeceased by both parents and a brother, David. Dennis was employed at the College of Charleston, a member of the grounds department. Previous employment included Grounds Manager at Christ our King Church and several local landscape design firms. Dennis had a unique relationship with nature and innate talents for helping her make this world a more beautiful one to be in. He loved manipulating the balance between man, structures, and plant life and reveled in the harmony that could be achieved with all three. Dennis was selfless and caring to all he met. He was kind to strays both human and animal, and took care of many of both. While sick he clung to his dignity and was true to himself asking little of the people around him, being nurturing when he himself needed to be nurtured. He and Marc lived by a basic tenet," Leave this world a better place than it was when you came." All who knew him know that he accomplished that. It is time; however, for Dennis to tend other gardens and set heaven to bloom. In lieu of flowers, Marc asks that you honor Dennis by donating to The Charleston Children's Garden Project, an organization dedicated to helping children through gardening. Please mail contributions in Dennis' name to: Charleston Area Children's Garden Project, P.O. Box 13302, James Island, SC 29422 We will celebrate Den's life in the spring, when his gardens are blooming in all their glory. In the meantime, look around you and find a reminder of Dennis every day in the beauty that is nature, for he lived to share that beauty with everyone he touched. Marc, Dennis was an unforgettable person and we feel blessed to have known his smile and laughter. He was someone that was an old friend from the moment you knew him and someone you could always be yourself around. We are so very fortunate to have beautiful memories these past few years involving him, and we will always have wished he wasn't taken from us so early in his life. He is tending the flowers in a better place now, where there is no pain or sickness. We hope to see you soon for a great big hug, Love Allison and Brian Bolduc

Marc I am sorry for your loss. I worked with Dennis at BiLo when he was the florist and I ran the coffee shop. He was such a wonderful, caring person. I remember one particular time I was having a down day and he shared some soup that he had brought from home. His kindness made my day. He will surely be missed.

Marc- we are going to miss Dennis. God needed an angel like him. Take care of yourself and Trish. I am one of Trish's friends from Virginia. We came to see you a few years ago. You and Dennis were a lifesaver for her. Take care, Rita

I am so saddened to hear of Dennis' passing... I worked with him and knew well his love for nature and the beauty he felt compelled to bring attention to in the world. I learned many a thing from Dennis about gardening. Marc, my prayers are with you and all who knew him and feel such a loss. He is out of pain now...
