To the Reverend Simmons and Family;

What a testimony Denise's life was to so many people as evidenced by the many who arrived to pay their respects at the memorial service and the voluminous comments written here in this guest book.

Clearly, she left an indelible mark on so many of us.

She is and will continue to be sorely missed.

To the Simmons Family,
I worked with Denise for almost 30 years at both NSC and SPAWAR. I will truly miss the sense of joy she brought to everything she did. You couldn't be around her without smiling. The funeral yesterday was the largest I've ever seen. It clearly showed how much she was loved, and how many lives she had touched. We will all miss her very much. You are in my prayers.

To the Simmons family: I was shocked and saddened to learn of Denise’s passing. I worked with her at the Naval Supply Center. She always had a smile and something nice to say. I remember when Denise sang her rendition of “Amazing Grace.” It gave me goose bumps! She had an amazing voice. I also remember the heartfelt blessings she would say before some of our luncheons. After I left NSC, I’d run into her occasionally and she never changed. Always jovial! Although many people will miss her here on earth, I pray that it will bring comfort that she is at peace with our Lord and Savior. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Words cannot express the sorrow that I feel at this time in the loss of my beloved and dear friend Denise. Denise was one of a kind. She loved to sing, shout, and praise God Almighty for the many blessings He bestowed upon her. She loved life, and tried to live it daily treating others as she would have wanted to be treated. She loved her husband(Vernon) and children, and talked about them proudly all the time. I will truly miss her. Life here on earth will never be the same again without her.

To the Simmons,

It has sadden me to know that Denise is no longer with us. From the the moment that we met, I was accepted into your home and was treated as one of her own. Denise had such a wonderful kindred spirit about her that was always inviting and warm. There has never been a time that when I was in her presence that I never felt loved and accepted by her. every time when we saw each other, I was always reminded that I should've been her son-in-law. Vernon, I am truly sorry for the lost of your wife, friend and companion. To Nay NAy, Tanya, Keemie, Marty and the Grands, I mourn with you for the lost of your mother and my friend. There is truly no other like Denise. I will miss her always, as all of you will as well.

Your mom will be truly missed. I thought back to Praises Salon of Beauty where Ms. Neice got her hair done. Mrs. Simmons, a wonderful, sweet, kind and talented woman. One who treated me so kind; like family. Every time I saw her around Charleston she'd say, "Michelle we were just talking about you." Even though it had been since Middle School (1989-1991) since I'd spent any real time with the Simmons family. I see her face in my mind and I miss already the next opportunity to see her light up when she recognize me, and tells me she just spoke of me. I send my love to the family who took me in when I was so young, and I send a huge hug to Johnny especially because I'm only imagining his heart right now. Love you guys; and always will.

Deepest Sympathy to the Family. When I heard about your loss, my mind went back to Denise singing 'Jesus Can Work It Out" at Emmanuel Baptist Church. True to the words, Jesus can work it out. The last page of the book in this life for Sis. Denise has been turned, but God has opened another book to another life for Sis. Denise. God knows best what he has in store for use. Jesus can indeed work it out if you let him.

Words cannot express, the pain that I feel in losing my best friend, "MY ANGEL". I know that although she's absent from me physically, she will forever live in my heart. I loved her, but God loved her more. He called her home, and she's with HIM now. She often said "When I see Jesus..."

OUR STORY

Two separate lives brought together
Our love and friendship shared forever.
The laughs, the love, even some tears
Were planned to be spent all our years.

Then one day things fell apart,
And time and hurt pulled at our heart.
"Together always," were words only said;
And reality was, it was all in our head.

But through it all, we truly shine;
It will be you and me till the end of time.
"I love you always," will now be said
and a great friendship waits ahead.

To The Simmons/Johnson Family, Denise was a true inspiration of joy, laughter and the Lord. We worked together, laughed, cried, and celebrated her birthday for the last 8 years together. Her smile is like an eternal flame that will always burn in our hearts and our minds. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.

To Rev. Simmons and Family,

Know that the Lord cares for you. Know that He IS. Please know that I am thinking about you and praying that you gain the strength from the Lord needed to walk this journey of grief. Denise indeed was a beautiful person made and fashioned by the Lord. Her character found peace with God when she accepted Jesus as her personal savior and that same character will keep her in peace with God Almighty.

You have my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences in the demise of your loved one.

God Be With You Always.

too good for earth she was..I am so at peace knowing that she was a child of God and I know she will be welcomed into his kingdom. I am truly going to miss neicy being in my life. I thank God to have known her and thankful that my son had such a wonderful gramy. She is irreplaceable, and will forever hold a piece of my heart. I'm going to miss her smile..

To The Simmons Family, my deepest condolences and prayers are with you. I met Denise in 2003 at SPAWAR. It was a pleasure seeing her smiles and talking to her. God bless you during this time and always.

I worked with Denise at the Naval Supply Center 20+ yrs ago. Denise was always happy and friendly to everyone she met. Her smiles and positive outlook on life will be greatly missed. Words seem inadequate to express the sadness felt by her passing. She brought so many gifts to life and those around her. She will remain in everyone's heart forever.
