Denise Grab Obituary

Denise Sloan Grab Daniel Island - Denise Sloan Grab, 64, went to her Lord on Monday, December 6, 2021 at her home on Daniel Island, South Carolina. Born January 3, 1957 in Elmira, New York, she was the daughter of the late Marie C. Sloan and Woodrow J. Sloan. Growing up in Elmira, NY, Denise especially enjoyed her summers at Hanford Bay, New York. Denise became a certified swimming instructor there, where she taught children, including those with special needs, in the very waters of Hanford Bay she so loved. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Elmira, she went on to Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, spending her junior year in Switzerland studying French. After attaining an accounting degree and later becoming a CPA, she joined a major firm in Miami, Florida, where she met the love of her life, John Grab. They married on May 1, 1982 in Ocala, Florida, later relocating to Jacksonville, Florida. Denise and John began their family there, then spent many happy years raising their family across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Denise loved the outdoors, the sunshine, the water and, most of all, her family. Making sure her sons always knew she was there; Denise would accompany every school lunch with a note of love. When she found a moment to herself, Denise loved to spend her time on long walks with her miniature schnauzer, Oscar. During the final years of her life, Denise planned trips to reflect with her family in her most beloved places across the Southeast. Denise was truly a selfless, loving, and generous woman, who devoted her life to her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow J. Sloan, and mother, Marie C. Carberry. She is survived by her husband, John; sons Jonathan (wife Melissa), James, and Jeremy (fiance; Ansley); brother, Jay; sister-in-law, Dorothy; nieces Cheryl, Rachel, and Liz; sister, Sheila; sister-in-law, Nancy; nieces, Katie and Carrie; and 10 more nieces and nephews. She loved all her extended family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Upstate New York. A Catholic Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Christ Our King Catholic Church located at 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Denise to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project; two foundations that she cared about and donated to regularly throughout her life.
