Dimi was always a beautiful example of finding the humor in any situation and at the same time being the voice of reason. All of my memories of him are him smiling and bringing a smile to all who knew him. Sending love to his family and friends. Gone too too soon but always remembers in love.

Demetre was the smartest, kindest, and best person I've ever known. He carried his burdens with grace, style and panache. His generosity and love was boundless. His commitment to his family, especially the next generation, was inspiring. He truly is a magnificent, wonderful person, and the world was a lot more joyful and happier with him in it. We miss you every day, Mimo!

I am deeply saddened to hear about your loss. I am sorry it took me such a long time to find out. I last contacted him on his birthday and have tried to contact him again on several occasions. I finally tried calling him yesterday and that's when I knew that something was wrong...
I met Demetre in Athens, when he came to work for the Olympic Security program. We became good friends; I valued our friendship and kept in touch ever since.
Demetre touched my life with his wit, his mentality and perspective on life. We shared a love for languages, travel and quality of life. I'm sorry he didn't return to his beloved Greece and his appartment on L. Katsoni he so patiently renovated. He talked so fondly of his family back in Charleston that I feel as if I know you a little bit and my thoughts are with you at this difficult time. He will hold a dear dear place in my heart forever.

My sincere condolences, I am so sorry, I just found out. It's terrible, I cannot believe it, we talked last time on the phone in May... Dimitri was a dear friend, we met in Athens, which he loved, in 2004, working together on translating in the Olympics project, and kept in contact ever since, despite the distance, as he left to the US and me to Belgium to work as an EU translator. I was in NY in May and wanted to go and see him, I now regret so much not having done so... I will always keep in my memory and heart his passion for life (especially for Greek culture and music, for musicals and... Coca-Cola), his strength, his sense of humour, which he hasn't lost at all despite everything, his kindness and sensitivity, his laughter... I will miss him very much. I cherish our long discussions and laughs, the moments we spent together in Athens, at work, in the streets, in restaurants and concerts. I will never forget his last night in Athens, we went to see live Eleni Vitali, a singer he loved. (as so many others, like Moscholiou and Aleka Canelidou, which I discovered through him). Let me know if I could do anything for u. My email is [email protected]
.
Sincerely,
Karem Neumann

I knew Deme from Bishop England and we both attended the College of Charleston as well. Every memory I have of him was him making a joke and putting a smile on people's faces. I send his family and friend love and condolences in this difficult time.

I was so sad to read Demetre's notice. I saw him briefly about 2 weeks ago. He was a most interesting person and in reading his notice I realized how little I knew of him. I know he will be missed by all of his family and friends. Take care of yourselves, Deborah Brooks

Dear Homer family: My heart bleeds over the loss of Deme. He truly was a fine, brilliant person. He always had a smile on his face. When he came into the church narthex and was lighting his candle, he would look at me and say "Good morning Mary Lee." He is now in heaven with his Mom Christine.
