Deborah Neal Obituary

Deborah Rice Neal CHARLESTON - Deborah Rice Neal of 498 Albemarle Road, Unit 508, Charleston, SC, wife of Charles David Neal, passed away Thursday, December 4. Debbie was born on February 9, 1951 in Winston-Salem, NC. She was the daughter of the late Gary and Betty Rice. After working in radiology at Forsyth Hospital, Debbie moved to Charlotte, NC and married David on January 2, 1982 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, where they were both involved in leadership in the children's programs. Debbie retired from US Airways after nearly 30 years and moved to Charleston, SC with her husband where she became very active as a volunteer Master Gardener in the Charleston greenhouses, a docent for the Edisto Historic Preservation Society and a volunteer for the Edisto Land Trust. She was also active with Water Missions International, a Charleston non-profit organization. She served on the homeowners' board at their vacation home in Fishing Creek, Edisto Island, where she and David enjoyed entertaining friends and family and made many happy memories on the water-crabbing, shrimping and enjoying the island life. She is survived by her children, Josh Neal, a physician currently stationed in Sinai, Egypt, Cameron Neal of Washington, DC, Shannon Swanson of Charleston, SC, and Tavis Neal of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tori and Bella, both 8 years old. She is survived by one sister, Sandy Hayes of Winston-Salem, NC, as well as two sisters-in-law, Leonette Neal and Jo Neal Carson and her husband, Don, of Greenville, SC. A celebration of her life will be held by family and close friends on Isle of Palms on Sunday, December 7th. The family would like to express their gratitude to all who have offered their support during this journey. A special thanks to those working in the Cancer Center at Roper St. Francis Hospital. So very sad to hear this news. I transferred to the Charlotte airport in 1979 and Debbie joined us a week later. We quickly became close friends and remained so until my retirement. Not only did we work together and travel together, I was able to share in her happiness when she met and married David....the love of her life!. My thoughts and prayers are with David and their family. Debbie was a special lady and will be missed by all who knew her!

We extend our sympathies to David and to Debbie's children. We grew up in Winston-Salem with Debbie. Later in life we met her again with David's cousin, Wyman Moss, who is our neighbor. She was an intelligent, warm, and kind woman. I know you will miss her greatly.

David, Cameron, Josh, Shannon and Travis - We loved Debbie with all our hearts - we leaned from her watching how she lived each day to the fullest. She and David were such an incredible team - they made our experience in Charleston the best. We loved being their friends and neighbors. We cherished every moment we spent with them. We will take care of your Dad, as she knows the way to our home - and we cannot wait to see him. We will all see your Mother someday - she walked the walk and talked the talk....she was truly one of God's angles he lent to this earth for awhile. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and will be in the future.
