I was fortunate to meet Dean Brownell though his son Prescott. In my opinion, Mr. Brownell was a true Southern Gentleman and passed this trait to his sons and grandsons. He showed a dedication to his family at a time that most would rather be resting. Even when he was in in late 80's and 90's he attended Boy Scout functions with his grandsons and could be found helping and advising them on various car repairs and projects. I will always have fond memories of him and consider myself blessed for having met him.

Dad Dean had many friends, and will be remembered by many as a kind and generous person who never took advantage of or harmed anyone. Those of us who knew him well will have many positive memories to carry with us forever.

Having heard many stories from his first cousin, my father Sherman Brownell, I was delighted to have met and talked with Dean in Asheville shortly before his death.
I especially enjoyed the story of Little Henry (Bud Brownell) and the "brick from nowhere". Other than our Aunt Alice Brownell Gongwer he was the last survivor of the 12 children of Henry B. and Herbert Brownell. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

What a privelage to have heard the family stories and the way it was, when Dean was growing up. Hats off to the greatest uncle!
In loving memory, Kathy Suri
