Sorry to learn of this sad news. David was active in all parts of the lowcountry. He helped so many people during his time in the SC House and his many years of community service with the rural power companies, small towns, and people. He led in a quiet way and always reached out to people. Thank you for sharing him with so many. He will be missed dearly.

Dear Mrs. Umphlett and family,
My heart has been saddened over the past months knowing Rep. Umphlett has been enduring such a difficult time with his illness, and I was deeply saddened to learn of his passing. But I take comfort in knowing he is now healed and with the Lord Jesus Christ. As the late Senator Mescher's research director/chief of staff, I had the honor and pleasure of working with Rep. Umphlett at the State House. He was always a delight to be around and so kind; I am so blessed to have known him. Berkeley County and SC have truly lost a great statesman. He served his county, state and country well. He will be missed by many but not forgotten. My prayer for you and your family is for the Lord to comfort you and strengthen you during this difficult time.
With my deepest sympathy,
Debbie Love W. Griffin
