Ann & Family, I was so sorry to read of Van´s passing. Rockville was blessed by his presence for many years. He was quick to smile, shake a hand, or help others. Know that I have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless.

Van, Jr. and family,

I was so very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Van. I always enjoyed my conversations with him. He was such an upstanding person and represented only the highest of values, a true Southern gentleman. He will definitely be missed in the community both professionally and personally.

The mention of Van Smith´s name brings up so many memories and connections, from adjacent houses at "Old Kiawah" (before resort development) to Rockville, the Regatta, and SIYC. He was so kind to me, and I count him as a friend. My condolences to the family; another good one gone to his reward.

Dear Ann and family,
So very sad to hear that Van is gone; he was such a pleasant person. We would always talk when he was sitting on the porch and I was walking the front of Rockville. His contribution to sailing and the preservation of the SIOD fleet is immeasurable, and had a major impact on the Regatta. Van was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed.
