I was shocked to learn of David's passing. He was my Deputy at Comnavsurflant, and I have never met a finer Navy officer. I am sorry that we did not stay in touch during our retirement years. My condolences to all who loved him. May he Rest In Peace.

Hello, my name is Erin Rawlings and I am one of David's nieces. To my Aunt Genie, and cousins Michael and Jennifer I offer my sincere condolences. I wasn't made aware of David's death until about a week after it occurred. I did not know him well; however my father filled me in on all the kind acts David did during his life and of course I thank him for his service to our country. Once again, you're in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, Erin

I think it was an InSurv that Dave was leading, he popped into my office, a full captain, which sent my MSs scrambling, but he told everyone to stay put, pulled up the closest trash can, sat down and pulled out a smoke, not even thinking about disturbing one of the sailors who were also enjoying a smoke.

We were friends from that point. Worked together at CACI, and stayed in touched as he went through retirement. He was taken far too early. A true gentleman, I was lucky to have known him. My condolences to his family.

My sympathies to Genie and family.
Dave gave his all for his family, his country and his community. His moving from Sun City,SC to St.Louis was a loss to our community but a wonderful gain for he and Genie to be with the granddaughters and family these final months.
May he now rest in peace.

I will miss David and the fun exchange of emails we had over the years as we tried to piece together our family history. I will never forget his way with words, his wit and his love for learning about history and the part his ancestors played in it. His love of family and pride in his grandchildren was evident as he shared both photos and stories. Gentle hugs to you, his family, as well as my love and prayers. Michelle Ganus Taggart
