David MacEwen Obituary

David Adair MacEwen GREENVILLE, SC - David Adair MacEwen, Sr., passed away Tuesday morning, June 10, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Born in Asheville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Cameron Terrell and Kathleen Suttle MacEwen. He was a part-time resident of Glenbrooke Town Homes in Greenville and his home was on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Mr. MacEwen was a graduate of Porter Military Academy in Charleston, and was an alumnus of The Citadel where he was a member of The Citadel's Color Guard. He served in the U.S. Army Security Agency from 1957 to 1960 in Ethiopia, Africa. He earned his degree in Textile Chemistry from Clemson University in 1963. He held patents in his related field of study. Before retiring from The Bayer Corporation as Research Scientist, he was employed as Plant Chemist at Griffin Chemicals, a division of West-Point Pepperell, located in Opelika, Alabama. A lifelong Episcopalian, having been baptized as an infant at All Saints Church at Biltmore in Asheville, NC, he was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal, Auburn, AL where he was on the vestry and served as Junior Warden. He was a member of Rotary International in Opelika, AL and numerous professional organizations including AATCC. He is survived by his wife, the former Annette Guerry of Charleston, SC; his children, David A. MacEwen, Jr. of Greenville, Mark William MacEwen of Vestavia Hills, AL, Courtney M. Tilinski and her husband, Randy, and Michelle M. Toole and her husband, Andrew, all of Atlanta, GA; and his grandchildren, Sarah and William MacEwen of Waynesville, NC, Sam and Charlie Toole of Atlanta, GA, and Alexandria and Camryn MacEwen of Birmingham, AL. I will miss talking with Dave about football, golf, etc. He had remarkable memory of events. Dave was the go-to guy in the company for any thing in chemistry. We will all miss him.
