David Lloyd Obituary

David Roy Lloyd (Col., USAF-Ret.) JOHNS ISLAND - David Roy Lloyd (Col., USAF-Ret.) slipped the surly bounds of earth, reached out and touched the face of God on the morning of April 25, 2016, surrounded by his family and dear friends. David was born on December 2, 1943 in Long Beach, CA and grew up in Seattle, WA. After graduating from Central Washington University, he spent the next 30 years serving his country as an officer in the United States Air Force. He was a senior command pilot who flew combat missions during the Vietnam War and was awarded a number of medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He served with excellence in various flying, staff, and command positions during his long and distinguished Air Force career. David's last assignment was Commander of the ROTC Detachment at the University of Georgia where he became an ardent supporter of the UGA football team (Go Dawgs!). David and Bobbie moved to the Charleston area in 2003 and built their retirement home on Johns Island, SC where they became loyal members of Seacoast Church. David worked as a Defense Department Contractor until his retirement in 2012. He was passionate about the game of golf and leaves behind a very special band of brothers who always looked forward to their Saturday tee time. David is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Bobbie Stubbs Lloyd, of Johns Island, SC; three daughters: Leslie Isham (Scott) of Phoenix, AZ; Gina Cristofano (Danny) of Chandler, AZ; Alexandra Middleton (Julian) of Cape Cod, MA; and seven grandchildren: Josie and Nate Isham; Hayden, Jack and Kyle Cristofano; and Ben and Graham Middleton. He also leaves behind his brother, Donald Lloyd (Tracye) and numerous nephews and nieces, all of Seattle, WA; his wife's sister and brother-in-law, Anna Marie and Eddie Barham of Wadmalaw Island, SC; and his wife's brother, Charles Stubbs of Lake Park, GA. He also leaves behind his beloved Lab, "I'll be your Huckleberry" (Huck). The Lloyd family wishes to thank Dr. Daud Nawabi and his team for the excellent and compassionate medical care they provided during David's eight-year battle with lymphoma and Myelodysplastic Syndrome. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to Seacoast Church Sea Island Campus, 2024 Academy Road, Johns Island, SC 29455 or the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401. A Celebration of David's life will be held on Friday, May 20, 2016, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Island House, 2658 Swygert Boulevard, Johns Island, SC 29455.
